Speaker: Dr. Yadunath Moharir

Topic: A scientific analysis of Vedic tradition -

Significance of Shri Sukta.

Date &Time: Thursday Dec 2, 2004 (6:00 - 7:00pm).

Place: HU Campus, 113 N Econlockhatchee Tr.,

Orlando, FL 32825. *

About the Topic:

Shri Sukta is sacred chanting devoted to the deity of wealth and is

used to invoke her blessings. Shri Sukta, from the Rig and Yajur

vedic sources, gives a profound understanding of human nature.

In the Vedic tradition, sages and seers have handed down to us many

Suktas, in Sanskrit language, which are revelations from a higher

level of consciousness. Hindu traditional practices use these sacred

chantings interwoven within several rituals. Acceptance of rituals

and the sacred chanting without an understanding does not appeal to

the scientific minds of the 21st century. It is not fair to discard

the tradition because of lack of understanding. An understanding the

tradition helps us to realize that Vedic compositions contain

suggestions for current life styles. This presentation brings out the

relevance and richness of Shri Sukta composition in the light of

practicality, science and appropriate context. Select Vedic words and

concepts present in Shri Sukta, such as, jaatavedasa agni, chiklita,

kardama, deva-sakhaa horse drawn chariot, trumpeting elephant,

Lakshmi’s residence in bilva tree, reveal profound meanings. The last

Richaa clearly recommends the truthful application and utilization of

this Sukta in our lives for material and spiritual enrichment of our

lives.

About the Speaker: Dr. Moharir has analyzed many Sanskrit scriptures

with a scientific mindset to understand their true (hidden) practical

meanings. His favorite quote “Gods reside in Vedic hymns” comes from

Deerghatamas. In 1996 he authored a book "Significance of Shri Sukta:

Laxmi's Invocation for National Prosperity.” Dr Yadu holds a Ph.D. in

Chemistry and has extensive background in Clinical, Medicinal and

Analytical Chemistries. He has lived in North America for over 26

years and has held senior management positions in Pharmaceutical and

Nutrition Industry. He has taught at the McMaster Medical College,

Canada. At present he works as an independent consultant in

Pharmaceutical and Nutritional industry.
