Guest guest
Why do we feel jealousy? It is natural to be jealous, but is it legitimate to be jealous? Other beings do not seem to have this emotional problem. One cow with rather ugly horns does not appear to be jealous looking at the beautiful horns of another cow. Why is it that only human beings irrespective of age, sex, etc. have this problem? Recently, I asked this question to a layman who has no exposure to much education/learning. He said, we feel jealous when the other fellow appears to be more superior, in wealth, body, intelligence, dress, his material possessions, etc, etc, than us. I asked him “Are you superior and if so, in what way are you superior?” He could not answer, but it appeared he did feel that he was superior and he said that whenever he finds his superiority gets affected while comparing with others, he feels jealous. Friends, each and everyone have the same conclusion about ourselves that we are superior, but we somehow do not know where exactly this superiority or perfection we have concluded about ourselves, lies. There is an urge in everyone to remain perfect or superior to others and this urge is quite natural as we find this in everyone. However, one cannot make out where exactly or with reference to what he is perfect or complete or superior. This ignorance forces him to always compare with others with reference to everything i.e. body, intellect, mind, wealth, possessions, etc. etc. He cannot make out with reference to what his Poornatwa is, though he has somehow concluded that he is Poorna. Unfortunately, while searching for Poornatwa he leaves out his own self i.e. the essence of his self’s swaroopa, which is one without the second and therefore, perfect, complete, poorna, etc. The Sacred Upanishads, when it says “Tat Twam Asi” only indicates this fact to him.
