Guest guest
Namaste dear all: Happy Holidays and a Happy and Peaceful New Year! This holiday season reminds us all the upcoming new year and the importance of developing a positive attitude for meeting all challenges of our life. This month's Reader's digest (January 2005 issue that arrives in December) contains this inspirational article about the life of Kyle Maynard. The article with the title, " The Contender," describes how Kyle was able to cope up with a birth disorder known as "Congenital Amputation." Kyle Maynard was born March 24, 1986 with this rare disorder with only three major joints: a neck and two shoulders. He has no arms below the elbows and his legs stop at the knees. But Kyle never thought that anything was beyond his reach. Kyle also believed at the bottom of his heart that he would be always be able to stand on his own two feet even though he has no legs or knees. During his visit to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, Kyle said, "I don't have time in my life for excuses." Kyle also observed, "Everybody has some kind of disability; mine is just more apparent that everybody else's." The author of this article, Derek Burnett calls Kyle as the "Human Antidepressant." Kyle has been a great inspiration to all he knows. The story of Kyle Maynard transcends the sport of wrestling. It sends a message of hope to those who must persevere in overcoming insurmountable odds. What many of us would consider a handicap, Kyle uses as a gift. It is not only Kyle's attitude towards wrestling that endures him into the hearts of those he comes into contact with, but also, his passion and zest for life that is equally contagious. He may only be two feet tall, but is truly a giant amongst men.s. Kyle has an impressive wrestling record during his college carrier. His visit to the Georgia State Wrestling Championship left him with an impressive record of 35-16. Kyle also narrowly missed All-American status at the National High School Senior Wrestling Championships. This year Kyle was honored by ESPN with an ESPY Award for Best Athlete with a Disability and he also received the President's Award for the Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame. I recommend everyone who feel depressed to read the success story of this gifted athlete at the Readers Digest. If you can't access to readers digest, please visit the URL: http://www.kmaynard.com/index.html with the biography of Kyle. For advaitins, the story of Kyle is quite important because that the `heart' has the capacity to direct the body, mind and intellect to achieve whatever it seeks. Physical and/or mental disabilities are our own creations which bind us from achieving what we truly believe in. Kyle is a living legend who has demonstrated that we are the cause of our own sufferings. The parents of Kyle considered Kyle as the gift of the God and cherished that gift and demonstrated to the world that it is up to us to get the best out of the Lord's gift. With positive attitude, they were able to see happiness through Kyle and they were rewarded for their positive attitude! Kyle is currently enrolled at the University of Georgia and those who want to see him and talk to him can really can! Let us follow Kyle during the coming years and stop complaining and cherish our life – the gift of god and liberate ourselves from our sufferings! Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! Guest guest
Namaste, All No doubt, positive Attitude is good to develop. More than that, what one should strive for is to develop “right attitude”. Right Attitude can come only from Self Confidence and IMHO Self Confidence comes from Self Knowledge. The attitude backed by the knowledge “Aham Brahmasmi” and “Tat Twam Asi” helps one to face all obstacles that come in one’s way while living.
