Namaste to All Advaitins.

// QUOTE

Talk 226 (from Talks with Sri Ramana Maharishi)

A visitor from Tirukoilur asked if the study of the sacred books will

reveal the truth.

M: That will not suffice

D: Why not?

M: Samadhi alone can reveal it. Thoughts cast a veil over Reality and

so it cannot be clear in states other then Samadhi.

D: Is there thought in Samadhi? or is there not?

M: There will only be the feeling 'I am' and no other thoughts.

D: Is not 'I am' a thought?

M: The egoless 'I am' is not thought. It is realisation. The meaning

of significance of 'I' is God. The experience of 'I am' is to BE

STILL.

A question to the naysayers of Samadhi and those who believe Samadhi

is a post-Sankara phenomenon in Advaita:

Did Sri Ramana utter those above words because He is post-sankaran or

because he is a BrahmaNishta with complete certitude and speaking

straight from his own, direct knowledge of what constitues Samadhi?

Would Sri Ramana uttered a different opinion if he had lived before

Sankara :-) Did Sri Ramana even know about Sankara and Samadhi when

he

got his Realisation?

So how can Dr. Comans and his supporters even remotely think that Sri

Ramana being a post-sankaran somehow made him 'biased' towards

Samadhi.

Please objectively do manana on Sri Ramana's words and compare with

Lord Krishna's teaching in the sixth chapter:

aatmasa.nsthaM manaH kR^itvaa na ki~nchidapi chintayet.h .. 6\-25..

Making the mind fixed in the Self, one should not think of anything

whatsoever.

and

Sri Sankara's description of the Highest Samadhi from the Katha

Upanishad mantra 'yadaa paJNchaavatishhThante GYaanaani manasaa saha'

He indeed (ethasyam)

(hyaVasthayamÂ) in this (Avastha) state

(Atma) the Atman

(Svarupa prathistayam) established in its own nature

(Avidyaropavarjita) bereft of the superimposition of Avidya

Advaitic purvacharyas such as Sri Vidyaranya and Sri Madusudana

Saraswati describe the above WITHOUT ANY HESITATION as Nirvikalpa

Samadhi/ Asamprajnata Samadhi.

They say so not because they were post-Sankaran advaitins but because

they speak directly from their own, direct experience. They would

have, just like, Sri Ramana said the same thing if they lived a

million years before Sankara or a million years after Sankara.

SR prabhuji's questions :

A question to the naysayers of Samadhi and those who believe Samadhi

is a post-Sankara phenomenon in Advaita:

bhaskar :

Onceagain, you failed to understand the difference between asaMprajnAtha of

pAtanjali & vEdAnta's Atmaikatva jnAna though both these can be suffixed

with samAdhi...We are not against *samAdhi* (how can we?? when shankara

himself uses this word samAdhi in denoting saMyak jnAna??:-)) prabhuji, I

think, by this time you would realize the futility in bringing the sporadic

quotes like this :-))

SR prabhuji:

Did Sri Ramana utter those above words because He is post-sankaran or

because he is a BrahmaNishta with complete certitude and speaking

straight from his own, direct knowledge of what constitues Samadhi?

bhaskar :

Yes, ramaNa talking here about samAdhi...but NOT patanjali's chittavrutti

nirOdha AS/NS which is dual in its very nature, what he telling us here is

jnAni's sahaja state i.e. sahaja samAdhi. KIndly read *Science of Mind

Control* (which you yourself recommended earlier) to distinguish between

vEdAnta's Atmaikatva jnAna & vAsanA sahita jIva's experience of AS/NS.

SR prabhuji:

Would Sri Ramana uttered a different opinion if he had lived before

Sankara :-) Did Sri Ramana even know about Sankara and Samadhi when

he got his Realisation?

bhaskar :

again, see above, see Sri VK prabhuji's yOgAmrutaM-6 & see CN prabhuji's

recent mail on NS to know the difference.

SR prabhuji:

So how can Dr. Comans and his supporters even remotely think that Sri

Ramana being a post-sankaran somehow made him 'biased' towards

Samadhi.

bhaskar :

who said that?? I think it is only your interpretation of those

readings...the difference between ramaNa's sahaja state & patanjali's

temporary avasthA of AS is crystal clear in ramaNa's own words which you

have comfortably labelled as *absolutely untrue* :-))

SR prabhuji:

Please objectively do manana on Sri Ramana's words and compare with

Lord Krishna's teaching in the sixth chapter:

aatmasa.nsthaM manaH kR^itvaa na ki~nchidapi chintayet.h .. 6\-25..

Making the mind fixed in the Self, one should not think of anything

whatsoever.

bhaskar :

see BG sarva bhUtasthamAtmAnaM sarvabhUtAnicha Atmani! EkShate

yOgayuktAtma..*sarvatra samadarShanaH..

again see, AtmaupamyEna sarvatra samaM pashyati, sukham yadi vAdhukham ....

in the case of patanjali's AS/NS neither jnAna pradhAna *vivEka drushti*

nor equal vision possible since PY advocates temporary state of *mind

blank* state which is attained through deliberately suppressing thoughts

& eternally maintaining the difference among jIva-s, Ishvara & prakruti...

Hari Hari Hari Bol!!!

bhaskar
