Guest guest
"amba tvAmanusandDAmi bhagavadgItE BhavadvaeShiNeem" namaste all. Lord Krishna, realizing that Arjuna's grief is beyond mere convincing by arguments, decides to impart the knowledge of Atma, the relation of it to body(ies), and the nature of body immediately and without wasting any time to convince Arjuna, so that Arjuna can see his role in dharma for himself. a) The very first slOka after 'asOchyA 2:11' is 2:12 'na tvE' on Atma-jnana: "There never was a time when 'I' nor 'you' nor any of these kings did not exist, nor in future will there be any time when they will cease to exist." b) Immediately after comes 2:13 on relation between soul and body:- Just like the body associated with self passes thru childhood, youth, oldage, so does it pass into another body. Practical Observation:- One is not aware of the body passing thru childhood, youth, oldage. One always remains as one's awareness while the body takes various changes; passing eventually to another body with same awareness, which remains. Ideally, one must not get deluded by this. Sruti says, this awareness is that brAhmaN, that is eternal. 'tat vam asi' statement rendered while in dualistic world, and remaining one in brAhmaN eternally where no statements are possibly rendered. c) Immediately after comes 2:14 on the nature of body:- Contact of senses with their objects gives rise to pain and pleasure. Lord Krishna asks Arjuna to endure them- beacuse, 2:15 devoted to the vision of eternal-Self, enduring all such dualities, one progresses towards mOksa. 2:16 the pain and pleasure dualities in reality never exist; there are only transformations. The 'real' never ceases to exist. What is then the 'real' ? 2:17,18: That 'real' is the one that pervades all and is indestructable and immutable, while the bodies are mutable. Further elaboration on the same lines, 2:22 vAsAnsi, 2:23 nainam CHindanti...etc until 2:38. until 2:38 : Knowledge of the Nature of Self(sankhya). 2:39 : Start of knowledge of karma-yoga to get released from the bondage of karma (and not karma). Practical observation:- 2:11 to 2:14 contains the crux.
