Guest guest
Dear Shri Paramji, > Can any one say what is Aparoksha Jnanam? The word Aparoksha means a+para+aksha, literally not other eye. Which means knowledge which is perceived directly, not as experienced and related by others; not a second hand experience. Ordinary knowledge like knowledge of chemistry, geography etc is Paroksha Jnanam. Knowledge of the Self is Aparoksha Jnanam. >and how can it happen? The means to Self-knowledge, as advocated by Sri Shankara's advaita tradition, is Self-inquiry. When Self-inquiry reaches a certain stage, Self-knowledge shines by itself like the sun. >Can it happen only by group Discussion? or some more steps are also to be taken? Group discussion is one of the things which promotes the spirit of inquiry, and clears doubts. Other spiritual practices like devotion, selfless work, yogic exercises can create a conducive atmosphere for pursuing Self-inquiry. But it is the practice relentless Self-inquiry alone that leads to Self-knowledge. Pranams to all advaitins. Ravi Shivde
Guest guest
Shree Ravi Shivde Enjoyed reading your explanation for aparokshajnaanam. Yes, it is direct and immediate knowlede not involving any pramaaNas. That which can be known directly and immediately is only one in the universe- that is myself or self-knowledge. Any other knowledge requires a pramaaNa or means or medium - hence all the pramaanaas that are discussed are in principle not valid for self-knowledge. Oneself knows by oneself through oneself - dhyaanena aatmani pasyanti kashchit aatmaanaa aatmaanam. Hari Om! What you have is destiny and what you do with what you have is self-effort. Future destiny is post destiny modified by your present action.
