Namaste

This is the crux of the problem. Every one of us knows that control

of senses is the need but all of us get stuck where to begin. Our

likes and dislikes always get the upper hand. Likes and Dislikes

constitute a weakness. It may express itself in one or more of

several facets of our daily life. Eating habits, Tastes of food,

daily routine, oirganization of our possessions, personal hygine,

our attitudes to friends and colleagues, our dealings with

neighbours, our contacts with relatives, our relationship with our

spouse -- and so on in umpteen facets.

In a particular person the weakness of likes and dislikes may not

express itself in all of the above facets. It may be there in one of

them, some of them or all of them. But the aim is that we should

have no likkes and dislikes in any of them -- so that we can walk

the path of the Gita in our daily life.

Now the solution as Raghavji points out from the Gita is to submit

to the divine will and leave everything to that Will. Coming down

to brasstacks does this mean when my neighbour insults me I have to

take it lying down? Does it mean that when my boss is harsh with me

I do not try to justify myself? Does it mean that when my body fails

to keep up with my needs I just allow it to wither? Does it mean

that when I cannot make both ends meet I do not try harder? Does it

mean .........?

Sense control is a general word and is used as a mantra whenever we

talk about spiritual growth. But the questions like the above arise

in our interpretation of the Gita for our daily life. These are the

questions to be discussed.

PraNAms to all advaitins.
