Immediately after Lord Krishna conveys the above slOka, arjuna asks the question, "Dragged by what does one commit pApaM, reluctantly indeed, as if compelled through force ?" 3:36 Here, pApaM may be interpreted as 'adharma'. In reply, Lord Krishna says, "It is desire" 3:37. Hence, "Desire" is the root which causes one to stray from swadharma. In the whole chapter, especially from 3:9 onwards, Lord Krishna keeps conveying repeatedly about action done in the spirit of yajna also giving the example of king Janaka [3:20] until 3:25, as if building the case for conveying 'svadharma'. Resting(Surrendering) all thoughts on the Supreme 3:30, unattached with all actions(3:28) while they move among the qualities of nature and without the agency of doership 3:27, thus behaving in conformity with prakriti(3:33), a wise person does one's own svadharma [3:35]. Reasons to stray from svadharma(3:36) were discussed in the first part of this post.
