Bodha Katha

 

(Shruti- "Tadev Brahma Twam Viddhi Nedam Yadidam Upasate)

 

One Adwaitin was "accredited" Pundit. He had written many books on Adwaita

Vedanta, and he used to write regularly in many periodicals. He was honored by

many Dharmik Sanstha and the people. His "Ishta" (Upasya – Main Deity)was

Bhagwan Ram Chandra. He would get Shuchirbhut (clean) early morning and would

worship Prabhu Ram Chandra.

 

One day he thought," Shri Ram is not "Dayalu" (kind). I am worshipping Him since

last fifteen years but He never cared for me. Forget Sakshatkar

(Aparokshanubhuti- direct experience), He never bothered to give me Darshan at

least in dream. I am surely making some mistake. Shri Ram is very Prachin

(ancient) deity. I think by this time His Ling Deha must have been dissolved in

Mahadakash. I am fool, that I am expecting his Darshan. I should have taken Lord

Shri Krishna for worship. Compared to Ramayana, Mahabharata is recent. Lord

Krishna must be much there. It is never too late in Adhyatma Shastra, I teach

the people. Why should not I change my Upasya. I shall worship Lord Krishna,

instead. I have met many people whom Shri Krishna has given Darshan."

 

He had a beautifully carved and painted white marble Ram Murthy of three feet

height in his small Mandir in home. Pundit getting frustrated by no response

from Shri Ram and thinking as above, lifted the idol and kept it in the cupboard

in the room. Then he went to market and brought a Krishna Murthy of same size

and equally beautiful. The shape of cow was carved in the back of Shri Krishna

having Murli in hands. Pundit had insisted on cow behind Krishna because he was

telling in his lectures that cow represents Maya. Pundit took a sarcastic look

at Prabhu Ram Chandra lying in the cupboard on the wall. But he was happy with

Krishna idol. He was recollecting miraculous life of Shri Krishna and trying to

forget Leela of Purushottam Prabhu Ram Chandra. He would laugh himself with the

thoughts that he had taken correct decision.

 

He had not forgotten to bring very expensive fragrance sticks for Pooja, because

that was his first worship of Lord Krishna. He looked at Ram Murthy in corner,

some what indignantly, and before he would light up the fragrance stick , he

thought that ungrateful Shri Ram idol will enjoy the expensive fragrance for no

reason and for no return. He then prepared two small cotton balls and pushed

them inside the nostrils of Ram Murthy, and laughed himself. "He must be

punished ", he thought. He came back to his Aasan before Krishna idol to

continue Pooja. He took aback when he suddenly found Bhagwan Ram Chandra

smiling, and standing in place of Krishna idol. Pundit was frightened and

started shivering and sweating. He thought as if he had lost strength in his

feet and entire body, and was not able to speak. Prabhu said, "why are you so

much frightened, go to kitchen and have a glass of cold water from your freeze,

and come back. I would not mind waiting for my great devotee. I had done

this waiting job in the past". Pundit anyhow, got to his feet and rushed to

kitchen and came back via toilet.

 

"Why you have not given me Darshan. I worshipped you for last fifteen years. Why

are you appearing now when I have given you up?"

 

"Whenever you worshipped me you were thinking that time that the world was an

illusion."

 

"That’s true."

 

"And you were thinking that I was Maya Upadhi"

 

"Yes."

 

"You were thinking that you were a pure consciousness and the stone idol before

you was Bhaas."

 

"That is true Bhagwan, but I was worshipping with BrahmaBhava"

 

"What Brahmabhava? You were looking to me as one among other things in your

house"

 

"That’s true Prabhu, forgive me. I am your Daas."

 

"You never thought of "Sarvam Khalu Idam Brahma" Parichhinna (hidden) in to me,

and never forgot that I was an idol"

 

"Oh Deen Dayal Prabhu Ram Chandra, I am a greatest fool on this surface, pardon

me"

 

"When you always thought me as Jada Murthy, tell me why should I give you

Darshan ?

 

"Pardon me Bhagwan, I have one question. Why then you have given me live Darshan

right now?

 

"I found your BrhmaBhava in me when you inserted cotton balls in my nose. You

thought me alive. You never thought it in past fifteen years. In fact I used to

like your innocent and selfless Bhakti, but I was helpless due to your Bhava.

But be blessed now. You have now became "Atmavit". You are now omniscient with

my blessings. Give up hair splitting of Shastras and do not read irrelevant

books. Behave as the Shastra direct you, and get merged in me when you leave

Awaran (shield)"

 

"Prabhu, I have tears in my eyes. You are the only kind, You are the only great,

You are the Anant and You are Dhnyanmaya and Vidhnyanmaya. You are Nitya,

Suddha, Buddha and Mukta. My Ahamkar is dropped now. I am feeling as if all your

qualities are in fact my own. I am feeling oneness with you, be an idol or live.

I am Dhanya"

 

Prabhu Ramchandra had entered AntarDhyan by this time, and became invisible to

Pundit.
