Guest guest
Namaste all, As one who practices Christianity yet loves all religons I have been interested in reading the messages in this thread. I loved what many of you wrote, especially profvk and the quote from Gandhi. I practice Christianity because in following my path I have developed a strong, beautiful and intimate relationship with Jesus. I love him so much it is beyond words and it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about Him. However, when it comes to my understanding of primal questions that get to the essential nature of reality and who/what I really am, it is the teachings of Hinduism that I turn to. When I understand a Hindu teaching, I also have a new understanding of what the Bible says, and words that Jesus used. I also have a deeper understanding of other religious teachings. It is my experience that Buddhism and Hinduism get to the core of the important questions, and that people of all other religions would benefit from studying them once they are able to see/hear/understand them. I do believe that Jesus himself studied the eastern religions before beginning his mission. When it comes to the interpretations of the Bible by Christians, there are many, and some are very different. Most evangelical Christians, who believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible, would say I am not even a Christian at all because I don't see things the way they do. The cause of this schism and the different interpretions is the same cause of the schisms among all people on every topic you can think of. Everyone has a different perspective, and that's ok. But we are all ultimately looking at the same thing, especially when it comes to God. Warmly, Jennifer
