Namaste.

I continue from the following observation in

http://www.escribe.com/culture/advaitin/m25900.html

> From here Krishna takes us to the equal-mindedness to all

> things, happenings and persons. (#s7, 8 and 9).

The equal-mindedness or equanimity in every aspect of man's life has

been exhausted by Lord Krishna in these three shlokas:

'shItoShNa-sukha-dukheShu' (#7)

'shItoShNa' - cold and heat. This is equal-mindedness at the body

level.

'sukha-dukheShu' - happiness and sorrow. This is equanimity at the

mental level.

'tathA mAnopamAnayoH'(#7) - also in honour and dishonour. This is at

the intellectual level.

'sama-loShTashma-kAnchanaH' (#8)- equal minded-ness with respect to

a tile, a stone and a golden piece. This is equanimity with repsect

to things of the world.

suhRn-mitrAry-udAsIna-madhyastha-dveShya-bandhuShu' (#9) - among

well-wishers, friends, those who are unconcerned, those who are

neutral, foes, relatives. This is equanimity with respect to living

humans.

'sAdhuShvapi ca pApeShu' Among either the holy ones or the sinful

ones. This is the peak of equanimity. For it implies a complete

absence of the assumption of a right to judge others.

This balanced view of everything as One, everything as the Self, is

a blissful experience, called brahma-Ananda. This was the continuous

experience of a Ramana Maharishi, a Sadasiva brahman, a Ramakrishna

and sages of that kind. It is naturally a state to be experienced

internally, not by any external apparatus. It is a super-fortitude,

an equal-mindedness so unfaltering that it results in feelings of

deep happiness. At that ultimate level there is really neither good

nor bad. The qualities of poise, perspective, peace of mind and

patience all go with it. These are not just nice traits; they are

the basic components of happiness. This after all is IT. This is the

peace so sought by every one. This is the ultimate aim of it all.

PraNAms to all advaitins.
