Guest guest
The non-dual state is an experience of the release of attention from objects of perception. Some call it non-objective awareness. The sense of inside and outside of the body vanishes and what remains is the grounding force like the pulsing of a graviton or black hole in the Heart (to the right) of I as "I versus what was formerly a very weak and scattered sense of identity built around the sensations of the body and varying impressions and thoughts of the mind. To use the example that was given to people in the Middle or Dark Ages, when people asked the Church Fathers what the lights in the sky were at night time. They were told that at night, God put a shroud over the heavens, creating night, but behind the shroud was the infinite Glory, Light and Being of God. Within the shroud were many pinpricks through which shines that Infinite Light, called stars. They were further told that each of us has such a pinprick in the Heart, and that when the Heart becomes pure we pierce through the shroud and experience ourselves in the Eternal presence and Union with the Father. So it is with the non-dual experience, we come to the door and see both sides the dual ad the non-dual, but realize that only the non-dual is True. The initial experience is called in all Religions "hearing." With hearing comes "recollection," like coming out of what was a progressive state of amnesia, until what remains is "abiding." Once the "I" sense is felt as independent of the body and mind, It continues to pulse like a mantra that continuously draws you inwards to a state in which inward and outwards have no meaning. The pulsing of the "I" acts like a mantra that consumes all other mantras, until It begins to become impossible to bring forth images. At the same time clarity and pervasiveness prevail. The process is inexorable and relentless. In Reality, we do not use the senses to see and know. Who we are is the Infinite screen of Consciousness, the Light of Being that gives the weaker mind the impression that images appearing in the mind or through the senses have some separate reality relative to our bodies. The screen of Consciousness upon which / within which appears an undifferentiated "World" has no concept of limits, so that one begins to gradually experience a greater and greater sense of de-contraction or inward/outward intensifying radiance that blows apart the tightness throughout the body that represents our attachment to senses, images, sensations and impressions. As the sense of abiding continues, a sense of recollection and clarity of Who and What we really are emerges like the sun burning away the morning fog. And what emerges doesn't seem new, as it is what we always were. The experience has with it the unique words "I am the Truth" a sensation of being both drawn in and Transfigured the word of Christ as he came out of the dessert, also the same word of Guru Nanak, as he came out of a long period in a cave ("Sat Nam"), and others. Everyone has this recollection. It's innate. Because the experience is one of Absolute Truth, where all else becomes meaningless like a mirage, there is no idea of coming back to a previous state, as it is discovered that that state never existed. It was just a vague idea the mind's mechanism focused on for a time. In the Bhagavad Gita, this imagining or delusion is stated like a dream: "You dream you are the doer You dream the action bears fruit It is your ignorance It is the world's delusion That gives you those dreams." "Every action is really performed by the gunas*. Man deluded by his egoism thinks 'I am the doer.' But he who has the true insight into the operations of the gunas and their various functions, knows that when the senses attach themselves to objects, gunas are merely attaching themselves to gunas, knowing this he does not become attached to his actions." Bhagavad Gita The non-dual state is not one of feeling empty or peaceful, rather it is a radical departure from every sense, perception, thought and image, without conditions, without cause, no time, space-like, ever abiding. Hope that helps answer the question. Pieter

Thanks for your explanation. I liked it. I would say that it is non-subjective awareness, I dont know for others, but for me is more suggestive. > The non-dual state is not one of feeling empty or peaceful, rather it is a > radical departure from every sense, perception, thought and image, without > conditions, without cause, no time, space-like, ever abiding. Yes! Exactly! There is absolutely nothing in the dualist world that prepare us to enter the non-dual state. Its absolutely another thing. Is that the nirguna (nor this nor that)?
