Guest guest
Hi All, I have started reading about ADVAITA very recently. Most of the web sites and forums I searched so far, are directing me to start with Commentaries of Shankara, Viveka Chudamani, and other references to understand ADVAITA. But, as a student of Science, Physics in particular, I would like to start with knowing the history and origins of Advaita, before I actually read about what ADVAITA is. I believe, it is the only way to understand any concept. It would ease my mind if I get the following questions answered. Please help me with your answers. 1. How is Non-Dualism originated? How did Sri Yagnavalkya/Goudapada/Shakara perceived the concept? 2. I understand that there is no commentary/book titled "Advaita" authored by Shankara. Its the underlining concept in all his Commentaries. What was the first commentary written by Sri Shankara? What was the first commentary that talks about Advaita? 3. After knowing the history/origins of Advaita, what is the fist book I need to read to understand the concept? 4. Any other references? Thanks in advance. Saradhi. Guest guest
Mr/Mrs Tulsi Listen to the tapes Swami Tejomayananda of Chinmaya Mission on Upanishads-totally 17. That will give a good introduction to Advaitha Vedanta.Though I cannot to the view that it would really make one understand Advaitha comprehensively, it would certainly make one have a deeper insight. Understanding advaitha is to be in the feeling of "Aham Brahmasmi". However verbiose and intellectual understanding is possible by listening to those casettes.
