Namaste,

“Satyam Gnanam Anantham”

is translated as Existence, Consciousness, Bliss (Infinite therefore bliss). It

is also translated as Existence, Knowledge, Bliss (Infinite therefore bliss)

Confusion arises when Gnanam is translated as Consciousness because it appears

Consciousness is absent in non-sentients.

Gnanam stands for Knowledge and whether sentients or non-sentients, they all can

be known as knowledge rests in them. Even a rock can be known as knowledge of

its being there. How one perceives it, i.e. whether as a rock or something else,

entirely depends on the means of knowledge, backed by memory, etc., operated.

Knowledge is all pervading like existence. However, this Knowledge is nothing

but consciousness, as there cannot be knowledge without consciousness being

there. Again, knowledge cannot be separated from consciousness, as both are one

and the same.

Confusion about consciousness is because Gnanam has also been translated as

Consciousness, whereas the correct meaning of Gnanam is Knowledge.
