Guest guest
Expert teacher CHENNAI: To realise God requires a great effort. The mind that seeks to grasp God needs to empty itself of other thoughts and fill it with thoughts of God. Who can teach us about God? Scriptures that speak of God and the universe are a source for the seeker. But it is not easy to understand the scriptures. So it is only those preceptors who have explored the scriptures to gain knowledge of God, or those who have realised God, can help us in this regard, pointed out Swami Gautmananda in a discourse. Their credibility depends on their knowledge. In this quest one has to approach those who are knowledgeable about the Supreme Being and the Truth of existence. Each Guru owes his status to his own master. So chronologically it may be possible to trace the line of Gurus up to a certain point. But beyond all this there must be someone who has been there always. This is God Himself who is the "Adi Guru" or the original preceptor. Only He could explain the profound truths of the nature of the Universe (that is His creation) and its functions, and also about Himself and about the soul. It is like tracing the primordial lamp that gave light to other lamps down the line. God is realised by those whom He has chosen to illumine from within. He reveals Himself to those pure in heart. Sri Ramakrishna was such a realised soul that he perceived God in his thought, word and deed. When asked if he had seen Lord Rama, he would answer that he saw the Lord very much in the marvellous shade of green that shines on the fresh blade of grass. One can draw faith from the staunch belief of such teachers who see Him as ever present and constantly experience His greatness and limitless powers. It is important to understand the concept of God's presence within us, to be able to grasp, recognise and comprehend His all-pervading divine force that guides each and every aspect of our lives and the universe. This awareness is the basis for building the spiritual force within us. One cannot but bow down in wonder at the magnificent power and energy behind the created world that includes sentient and insentient beings. Children imbibe thoughts about God in their early years, when parents and teachers try to explain and introduce the world around to them. copy right: The Hindu-Daily
