Guest guest
to day is Janmashtami-the birth day of Lord krishna. pranams to all. Transcendental love CHENNAI: In the matter of showing devotion to the Lord, there are no higher criteria than genuineness and sincerity. He places true devotion above everything else, and attaches little value to such factors as birth, intellectual attainments, physical prowess and wealth. This is clearly demonstrated in the manner in which Lord Krishna responded to the simple womenfolk in Gokula who were not learned but were full of love for Him. In their love for Lord Krishna is manifest a unique form of devotion. They had no knowledge of philosophical truths and led a humble life. But they loved Lord Krishna beyond anything or anyone. They constantly longed for Him and hence were immersed in thoughts about Him. Hearing the enchanting notes from His flute they followed it to see the source of such ecstatic music. The scriptures describe the Lord as the essence of bliss. Their single-minded involvement and their determination to seek His presence enabled them to experience this highest bliss, said Sri P.R. Vaidyanatha Sastrigal in a discourse, drawing attention to the fact that such a state is hard to attain even for great souls steeped in constant meditation and penance. Out of His boundless compassion He revealed His enjoyable form and presence to them. During this period Lord Krishna taught them the essence of spiritual communion, a state that transcends the physical and the mental spheres. In such a state, union or separation becomes immaterial. This was attained by the Gopikas, who though initially driven by passionate longing for His physical proximity, were later able to enjoy the Lord even in His absence. This is the highest state that is sought by one and all including the sages, yogis and millions of devotees. In the path of spiritual realisation, there are many stages to be crossed, and many practical hurdles and difficulties to be confronted and overcome. Cultivation of devotion is one stage, but even this has to be achieved with constant practice and determination. There are many disciplines that lead to this. In the final stage, one's mind is filled with inward attachment to God, and the mind begins to dwell on Him with delight and never turns away in spite of distractions arising from sufferings and worries. copy right: The Hindu-daily
