Guest guest
shriman Sadananda-ji! Ananta Koti Namaskarams. Your post brought 'tears ( of joy) to my eyes. What a wonderful explanation of the greeting 'HARIH OM' .... i remember very vividly when i used to attend Swami Dheerananda Prabhu's Gita classes in the Chinmaya Location in Silver Spring, he used to greet all devotees with folded hands by Uttering 'Harih Om' and a beaming smile.i also got into the habit of using the same greeting 'Harih OM' In my spiritual journey, i have traversed many paths . There i was at the ISKCON temple in Potomac, MD , every sunday, attending Srimad Bhagawad Gita classes and enjoying 'the bhakti-rasa' of Sri Sri Radha-Madanagopala ( THE NAME OF THE POTOMAC DEITIES), and 'Harih OM ' changed to 'Hari Bol' very quickly . But strangely, Hari Did not leave me , neither did i Leave him ! He was always in my heart ! You state , ' First we are address the other as Hari - the Lord Narayana himself in different forms and shapes since He is every thing - inside and out side antar bahischa tat sarvam vyaapa naaraayana sthitaH. ' and you go on to say ( Om! is nothing but Brahman - Om ityekaaksharam brahma says Gita. and Hari who is vishnu that pervades every thing is nothing but Brahman. > The whole advaita is packed in that greeting. ) Divine Explanation - 'Music' to my ears May i share this verse from BG ? Yes! That is the hallmark of a true Vaishanava ! He/she sees every one with equal vision .... vidya-vinaya sampanne brahmane gavi hastini suni caiva svapake ca pandta samadarsinam (BG5.18) Vasudevam Sarvam Iti! also,From Brahma -Samhita advaitam acyutam anadim ananta-rupam adyam purana-purusham nava-yauvanam ca vedeishu durlabham adurlabham atma-bhaktau govindam adi-purusham tam aham bhajami (33) I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is inaccessible to the Vedas, but obtainable by pure unalloyed devotion of the soul, who is without a second, who is not subject to decay, is without a beginning, whose form is endless, who is the beginning, and the eternal puruisha; yet He is a person possessing the beauty of a blooming youth. i am not quite happy with the translation but this is the best i have - i guess what is meant that 'who is inaccessible to vedas- scriptural study only by bHakti mArga?) Hari OM Tat Sat! >
Guest guest
Aditiji - My praNaams for your kind words- After long absence I am seeing your posts. I am not sure that Vishnu is inaccessible to vedas - Purushaye vedagam sarvam - and that purusha is - Hreeschate lakshmiischa patnou - He is identified as husband of Lakshmi - Only He is just 10 inches above the ground - That is one reason why we miss Him. Since Lakshmi(the whole nature), the divine mother is with us, we need to see Him through her - that is the essence of Shree vaishnavism too! Omkaara also implies that; where 'a' stands for vishnu (aksharaanaam a-kaarosmi) and 'u' stands for Lakshmi and 'm' stands for jiiva; and Jiiva can approach Vishnu only through Lakshmi. VishishTaadviata is also packed in that HariH OM!. Could not resist being a vaishnavate! HariH Om! Guest guest
Sada-ji! Hare Krishna! Once again, we learn so much from you, Sadaji ! A million Thanks. . Who is a Vaishnava? Mahatma Gandhi was very fond of singing this bhajan composed by Narasingha Mehta's 'VAISHNAVA JANA TO' and the song describes beautifully who a True Vaishnav is ! ( and one must hear it in the melodious voice of the Late Smt. M.S. SUBBALAXMI) Just a few lines ... Vaishnav jan to tene kahiye je PeeD paraayi jaaNe re Par-dukhkhe upkaar kare toye Man abhimaan na aaNe re Meaning One who is a vaishnav Knows the pain of others Does good to others, esp. to those ones who are in misery Does not let pride enter his mind The most well known definition of a Vaishnav is the one who is initiated into vishnu mantra and always chants the name of Hari. But, as per the above song, He is a true vaishnava who has compassion for fellow beings and feels the pain and suffering of others. In this sense, Mahatma Gandhi was the best Vaishnav. now, on another note Shiva is the best Vaishnav. Does not Sri Krishna himself declare in the Srimad BHAGAWAD Gita ? "Among the Rudras, I am Shiva" I am sure we WASHINGTONIANS have seen the majestic idol of Sri Ananta Padmanabha Swamigal in the SIVA-VISHNU TEMPLE in LANHAM, MD. Sri Padmanabha's right hand is shown offering flowers to the siva- linga in His Yoga Nidra. So, Lord Siva is always meditating on Sri MAHA Vishnu and Sri Maha vishnu is performing Archana to Lord SHIVA in his yoga nidra . and but we mortals always quarrel whether i am a shavite or a vaishnavite ! Ariyum Aranum onru; athai ariyathavan vazhil mannu ! Hari and Hara are one Cosmic Reality ; Those who do not realize this are ignorant. ( i will refrain from giving the literal translation of 'ariyathasvan vazhil mannu' as it does not sound nice) Also, very interesting interpretation of bijaksara 'AUM' , Thank you! Gurudeva once wrote to me " The Upanishads mention various triads of the soul worshipped by chanting the threefold A U M: In Gender, it represents the feminine, masculine and the neuter and their Creator; with power and light, A U M symbolizes fire , wind and sun as well as their generator; It represents the Trinity of Brahma, the Creator, Vishnu the Protector and Rudra , the Destroyer; as time, it represents the past, the present and the future; as thought it represents the mind, the intellect and the ego, the ahamkara.A U M represents the three guna's , Satva, Rajas and Tamas and in spiritualism, A U M represents Bhakti, Karma and Jnana Yoga's." Gurudeva always advised me to chant Aum as a saguna mantra Aum Namo Narayanaya Aum Namo Sivaya Aum Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya Sri Krishna BHagwan himself says in the Srimad Bhagwat Gita: maharsinam bhrgur aham giram asmy ekam aksaram yajnanam japa-yajno 'smi sthavaranam himalayah Simple translation Of the great sages I am Bhrigu; of vibrations I am the transcendental AUM . Of sacrifices I am the chanting of the holy names [japa], and of immovable things I am the Himalayas. I have read in CAITANYA CARiTRAMRITA , a kanistha adhikari( Ordinary VAISHNAV) is one who takes Hari's name 'once' everyday ; A Madhyama adhikhari ( better vaishnav) is one who chants Hari's name all the time . and the Uttama adhikari ( the most superior Vaishnav) is one whose presence You only think of 'Hari' AND NOTHING ELSE . May i place you as a 'Uttama' VAISHNAV as you hace compassion as well as in your presence i am thinking only of Hari? Kaayenu Vaacha, manase Indriyairva, Bhuddiyaathmanava, prakruthe: svabhaavaath. Karomi yathyath sakalam parasmai Naaraayanaayethi samarpayaami Whatever I perform & Speak or recite , (including the daily prayer, any special puja etc) the Heart & mind as power, the entire benefits of which I dedicate to the Lord Srimann Naaraayana!!!
