IN other words, we always avoid - a scorpion because we know it stings! a bee because it stings ! and a snake because it bites. But how to avoid the company of 'wicked' people? they are not easily identifiable ! ( from group brahmanshakti archives) rather, they are as sweet as 'honey can be 'until you get 'stung' or bitten' by them ! but then, is it possible to avoid them altogether? for the 'wicked' and the 'good' live side by side in the same persona! Take Duryodana , for instance ! He was a mean and Wicked Kaurava king who gave endless 'sorrow' to his cousins, pandavas! But , to Karna , he accorded the hand of 'friendship' and also accorded him a status of 'KSHATRIYA' ! WHICH BRINGS US TO AN INTERESTING POINT ... a member quoted Sri Ramakrishna recently - " The poison in the fangs of the snake does not affect the snake but affects those the snake bites." wow! What a compelling statement on 'mAyA' SHAKTI! Specially 'AVIDYA' mAyA! we encounter the snare of 'avidya' mAyA at every step in the pursuit of Truth! Sri Ramakrishna said" Maya is of two kinds - one leading towards God (Vidya-Maya), and the other leading away from God (Avidya-Maya). Vidya-Maya again is of two kinds - discrimination and non-attachment. With the help of these, individual souls surrender themselves to the mercy of God. Avidya-Maya is of six kinds - lust, anger, avarice, inordinate attachment, pride and envy. This kind of Maya gives rise to the sense of 'I and mine' and serves to keep men chained to the world. But as soon as Vidya-Maya manifests itself, all Avidya-Maya is totally destroyed. " Sri Ramakrishna realized that this Maya might be overcome when one returns from nirvikalpa samadhi and understands that Maya is just another aspect of the Divine Mother to love and respect this phase is Vidya Maya. Sri Ramakrishna realized that, after identifying with the Supreme Brahman in nirvikalpa samadhi, a devotee would return and see Maya as through new eyes. The Divine Mother uti lizes Vidya Maya as a game to release one from bondage. Maya was no longer an obstacle for Sri Ramakrishna; her power disappeared in his eyes. To him everything is the glorious manifestation of the Divine Mother become Brahman. He was both able to enjoy the play of the Divine Mother and yet to spend time with people in need.
