The meaning that is true to the word (name) is not dubious whether the word be a Vedic word or a laukika word. The speciality of the Vedas is that all Vedic words point to Brahman. The words in the section called Upanishads point to the Higher Nature of Brahman and the words in the other sections of the Vedas point to the Lower Nature of Brahman. They form repectively the words of the jnana-khanda and karma-khanda of the Vedas. ||||||||||| Namaste Chittaranjanji, Words have meaning in a dictionary but only propositions are dubitable and any proposition may be doubted if one is determined enough a sceptic. You will recall the Cartesian method of arriving at clear and distinct ideas. That the universe originates from words is unique to the Vedas - B.S.B. I.iii.28 "When there is first a word without a beginning and bearing a meaning with which it has eternal connection, then only is there a possibility of an individual which can be fit to be referred to by that word. In that sense it is said to originate from a word." Further down he states: "Brahma created the gods by (thinking of) the word ete; he created men and others by (the word asrgram); by the word indavah the manes.... I understand that this is a matter of faith and is of course supra-rational but how do you fit this in with evolution. Perhaps you feel that it is beyond all rational consideration and does not dovetail in any way with relative matters. Best Wishes, Michael.
