Guest guest
Dear ALL : May i please share an excerpt from an article i read in The hindu ? " In November 1874 Ramakrishna, the Guru of Vivekananda, was seized with an irresistible desire to learn the truth of the teachings of Jesus Christ. He therefore listened to readings from the Bible by Sambhu Charan Mallick, a gentleman of Calcutta and a devotee of the Master. Ramakrishna was fascinated by the life and teachings of Jesus. One day when he was seated in the parlour of Jadu Mallick's garden house at Dakshineswar, his eyes became fixed on a painting of Mother Mary and Infant Jesus. Intently watching it, he became gradually overwhelmed with divine emotion. It so appeared that the figures in the picture took on life, and the rays of the light emanating from them entered his soul. In dismay he cried out, ``O Mother! What are you doing to me?'' Jesus Christ possessed his soul. He did not set foot in the Kali temple for three days. (He was the priest of the Kali temple). On the fourth day, in the afternoon, as he was walking in the Panchavati, he saw coming toward him a person with beautiful eyes, serene countenance and fair skin. As the two faced each other, a voice rang out in the depths of his soul, ``Behold the Christ, who shed His heart's blood for the redemption of the world, who suffered a sea of anguish for love of men. It is He, the Master Yogi, who is in eternal union with God. I t is Jesus, Love Incarnate.'' http://www.hinduonnet.com/2000/11/14/stories/13141281.htm Nobody understood and shared his master's vision for serving Humanity more than his star disciple, Swami Vivekananda ! Swami Vivekananda grasped the hidden meaning of his Master Ramakrishna Paramahamsa's words of 'Shiva Jnane Jiva Seva'(worship of humanity is realizing shiva)! Jana seva Janardana Seva ; Nara Seva Narayana Seva Serving the Poor is serving The Lord ! Swami Vivekananda said "Look upon every man, woman, and everyone as God. You cannot help anyone, you can only serve: Serve the children of the Lord; serve the Lord Himself, if you have the privilege. If the Lord grants that you can help any one of His children, blessed you are; do not think too much of yourselves. Blessed you are that that privilege was given to you when others had it not. Do it only as worship. I should see God in the poor, and it is for my salvation that I go and worship them. The poor and the miserable are for our salvation, so that we may serve the Lord, coming in the shape of the diseased, coming in the shape of lunatic, the leper, and the sinner!" And Swamiji would often say "You are fortunate that the poor accepted alms from you. Bow down to him in reverence as if you are serving God." Poor the GOD - DARIDRA NARAYANA ! What a heroic concept. We would all rather bow down before a famous politician or a popular film star or rock star but bow down to the poor? No, never . Jesus Christ on that Holy Thursday called the Last Supper , did bow down to his disciples and washed their feet ! Amazing, is it not ? We have seen hindus washing the feet of the Guru but not the other way around! There is a hidden meaning here ! If the messenger of god( Master) can wash the feet of his disciples ( servents) , the disciples can do the same thing - that is to reach out and help the 'poor, the needy, the downtrodden, the diseased, the cripple, the blind, the leper ..... etc etc .! by washing the 'tears' of their eyes and bringing a smile to their faces! Karma yoga also should culminate in Jnana yoga and vice versa! Believe me! "THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD WHO ARE HUNGRY FOR LOVE THAN HUNGRY FOR FOOD ( MOTHER TERESA) Love all! serve all !
