Guest guest
Is there a prohibition against the use of Leather goods (such as shoes) in any of our shAstras? Or has any well-respected authority on dharma prohibited the use of Leather for everyday use? Thanks, Kartik -------------------------- Work for the Employer with the best benefits! Work for God! Namaste, References can be found. The following Smriti-s are available on-line for study: ftp://ccftp.kyoto-su.ac.jp/pub/doc/sanskrit/dharmas/ Dharma-shastra-s (Smriti-s) - Apastamba Baudhayana Brihaspati Gautam Katyayana Manu Narada Parasara Vaikhanasa Vasishtha Vishnu Yajnavalkya Interpretation should be done with the help of those who have studied the subject in depth. The use of leather is governed by the issues of hygiene, pollution, cultural sanctions, etc. The Rishis compiled these with the view of individual & societal welfare, and left the implementation to their successors to suit changing needs.
