Guest guest
Bhakti and Jnanam Today is the holy Hanumat-panchami. In Bangalore the Hanuman Temples have special pujas and other programs for the occasion. With a view to commemorate the occasion, a nice Hanuman incident is presented here: The occasion was Sri Rama's pattabhisheka. A number of people who had associated themselves with Sri Rama were being given gifts. Mother Sita spotted Hanuman in a corner and She wanted to reward him appropriately for the exemplary way in which he had served Sri Rama. In fact Hanuman had saved Sita from giving up her life at the Ashokavanam while in Lanka. She asked the Lord as to what would be an appropriate gift to Hanuman. Sri Rama smiled and said 'Hanuman does not expect any reward for the selfless service he has rendered. However, if you wish you may give him something of your choice.' Sita called Hanuman and gave him an expensive pearl necklace that was given to her by King Janaka at her wedding. Shortly thereafter, Sita found Hanuman in the same corner, plucking away pearl after pearl from the necklace, closely observing each one and throwing them away. Noticing this queer behaviour, Sita asked him what he was up to. Hanuman replied: Mother, I was looking for what I consider most valuable in these pearls. As I did not find it there, being of no value to me, I have discarded them. Sita questioned: What is it that you looked for in these pearls? Hanuman: It is my Lord Sri Rama! Sita persisted: Where indeed do you find Him? Hanuman: My Lord is permenantly residing in my heart. Sita: How do you say that? Thereupon, without hesitating even for a moment Hanuman tore open his chest with his hands. An awestruck Sita beheld there Sri Rama and Herself seated on a throne!! Sita now understood the true purport of Sri Rama's words of caution. Jai Hanuman!!
