Guest guest
Owing to a problem in the computer, i could not post some messages to the List for two days. Sorry. Bhakti and Jnanam An enlightened person is beyond the confines of religion. For, he has realised the Self that is Infinite, beyond the restrictions of any kind. Jaati, neeti, kula-gotra duuragam…says the Vivekachoodamani. All restrictions, divisions, etc. created by man and religion are seen by him to be applicable only to a person who is still in bondage. The Universal Spirit that is worshipped as God in various religions is realised by the Jnani as his very Self. Here is an incident that brings out the kind of feeling a Jnani has towards what others see as 'other religion': Dr.A.G.Ramesh of Chennai narrated this following incident: Once during one of Acharyal's visits to Madras, my father requested His Holiness to bless us with a visit to our house. His Holiness readily agreed. The date and the time of visit were fixed. We planned to place the asana, for Acharyal to sit, at a particular spot near the wall in the hall. It so happened that the spot we chose was directly under a photograph of Sri Sheerdi Sai Baba. My mother insisted that it be removed from there as it would not be appropriate to keep a Muslim's photo right above Acharyal's head! My father simply refused to remove that from there as he was a devotee of Sai Baba too! There was a severe quarrel and I interfered asking them to arrive at an early conclusion as the time for His Holiness' visit was fast approaching. Finally, my father agreed to my mother's condition that the asana should not be directly under the photo. Accordingly we moved the asana to a distance. Acharyal visited our house and entered the hall. On approaching the asana, He paused for a few seconds and asked me to move the asana to a place which was exactly the place we had originally planned for it! Now that the asana was moved (right under the photo of Baba) His Holiness sat on it!! My father could not control his smile while my mother her uneasiness! I was unable to control my surprise and mentioned to HH about the quarrel on the place of the asana. HH laughed. Then He looked at my mother and said"I am a sannyasi. He (pointing at Sri Baba's photo) too is a sannyasi. So, where is the question of religion here for Sannyasis?" Guest guest
respected elders, namaskaarams. at that time, i was the secretary of the sringeri sankara math in thiruvanathapuram, and as such , had to accompany their holinesses abhinava vidya teertha mahaswamikal and bharatee teertha mahaswamikal on their bhikshaa vandanam visits. one of their visits was to the residence of one of the ministers of the then kerala government, and this minister was a muslim. there were some idle queries if this was proper. after the conclusion of the visit, their holinesses were getting into their car when the senior sankaracharya HH Abhinava vidya teertha mahaswamikal stood back , and looking at the assembled group, pointed at the van of the math on which was painted the caption " jagadguru sringeri sankara math.....dakshinamnaya ........", and said.... " see, i am not guru for you people only.... i am the jagadguru ".... and laughingly got into the car. a.v.krshnan. --- V Subrahmanian <subrahmanian_v wrote: > Owing to a problem in the computer, i could not post > some messages to the List for two days.
