I think the answer is suggested by kaalidaa - sataa.n hi sandehapadeShu vastuShu pramaaNamantaHkaraNapravR^ittayaH || shaaku.ntala 1.10 || Meaning - Saints depend on their own inner feelings (gut feelings) as prammaNa, the self validated truths. AchArya Madhva defines pramaaNa - "shAstrArtha yukto anubhavaH pramANam uttamam. Meaning - The highest and best pramANa, is the experiential that is in line with shAstrArtha. |||||||||||||||||||||||||| Namaste Sri Yaduji, Thank you for your clear exposition of the role of the experiential in the spiritual life. The grace through which our inklings are confirmed by some deep experience is often checked against some passage in spiritual writings or scripture. In this way we are established in faith. I think even philosophical speculation is aided by intuition that grasps a truth almost by a sort of divination and it is only later that the steps of logic fill in the gaps. Best Wishes, Michael.
