The Revelation

CHENNAI : It is one thing to know the eternal spirit dwells in all

things and another to have a vision of it. In revealing the Universal

Form, the Lord tries to give visible reality to the abstract

metaphysical truth of Himself. Even to look and comprehend thereby

the all-encompassing cosmic vision one needs to develop one's full

capacity of comprehension. The Lord bestows this power on Arjuna to

enable him to perceive and grasp the grandeur and magnitude of this

vision when He revealed His transcendental form.

Just as expert guidance is necessary to initiate the process of

appreciation of the intricacies and subtleties of the various fine

arts, Lord Krishna Himself drew Arjuna's attention to the Adityas,

the Vasus, the Rudras, the Aswins and the Maruts dwelling within His

form, that none had seen before, said Sri Goda Venkateswara Sastrigal

in a discourse. All these and much more were present. In fact all

objects of creation in all the worlds were there in the unfolding

form of the Lord that assumed multi-dimensional proportions. Arjuna

was enthralled by the awe-inspiring stature of the Lord manifest as

the soul of all souls.

If he was wonder-struck with the omniscience of the Lord that could

track the past, present and future of all living beings and their

innermost thoughts, he was more than astonished at the Lord's

omnipresence and omnipotence.

To gain some understanding of the Lord is a great feat. The Lord

Himself says, "No one can understand me wholly".

Even the mighty seers and the celestials do not know His beginning.

He is the origin and the sustainer of the seers and the celestials.

Only the Lord knows about Himself, by the light of His innermost

nature.

Human eyes can see the outward forms. To perceive the inner essence

or soul one needs the power of the eye of the spirit.

There is that kind of knowledge that one can acquire with one's

efforts — the knowledge gained by the use of God-given faculties such

as senses, intellect etc.

But to be able to gain direct knowledge of spiritual realities one

needs the influence of grace. Lord Krishna's soulabhya

(accessibility) is manifest when he endows Arjuna with the divine

eyes to behold the grand vision of His cosmic form.
