Guest guest
Pranams to all Acharyas! Pranams to Everyone! I don’t know whether I am allowed to raise this in this forum. Kindly pardon me and ignore, if I am not allowed to. I need guidance from the scholarly members for the following personal problem :- A nephew of mine, a youth of 22 years, who was very pious and God-loving, doing all Nitya Karmanushtanams like Sandya Vandanam, etc, was put in the hostel attached to the PSG College of Engineering in Coimbatore for pursuing his Engineering degree. During the four years he spent there, he was introduced by one of his classmates to Esha Yoga, and then followed a sea-change in his attitude and behaviour. He is totally shunning all religious activities, has given up Sandya Vandan, and has started talking like an aethist, arguing that there is no God! However, he says he wants to renounce all worldly bondages, donate all his salary to the have-nots, wants to go out of home and do Tapas! He argues to the extent of why we should eat even vegetable food since they also have ‘life’ and should not be ‘killed’, does not want to take bath or brush his teeth arguing whether cows and sheep do that! We all try to put some sanity into this line of thinking giving him books of Sankara, Ramakrishna and Kanchi Paramacharya, hoping that he will understand things in proper perspective. But, he only picks up lines of text which appear to be supporting his line of thinking, quoting them out of context, and does not even complete the reading. He does not read Newspapers, no Television, no Music, etc. Kindly throw some light on the line of action that we may initiate to get him back to the original mould of a God-loving person. Thanks and Pranams again! Kalivaradhan
Guest guest
Namaste Sri Kalivardhan-ji. information from them. By the way, I never heard of Esha Yoga. Or is it Isha Yoga? From Sankarraamn With regard to Isha Yoga, it is propounded by one modern guru by name Jakki Vasudevan who claims to cure psychological illness of people. He visits prisons attempting to make the prisoners to turn over a new leaf. I don't know what specific message he has got apart from all these therapies. There are a number of modern gurus advocating some neo-spirituality. In what way they are helping the sadaks, is not known. As regards the individual developing atheistic tendencies, much importance may not be attached to it, as it is only a fad, as to be a sincere atheist also demands much honesty. Some where in the gospel Ramakrishna says (I am not able to quote the page number having read the book long back. I shall try to identify the content.) that in the process of religious quest some individuals may develop atheistic tendencies, which is not detracting from their quest for truth. Giving up sandhyavandana is not a serious lapse, as most of the people who do it perform it only by virtue of sheer habit. Some people after they attain middle or old age take to these nitya karmas. As man is subject to the influence of mind which is fleeting in its various manifestations, there is bound to be all these developments. Some people develop the serious psychological illness, schizophrenia, by virtue of excessive introspective and isolated sadhana which they might have taken to by virtue of their dispositions. The writer is aware of such cases. We must understand that life is totally uncertain and we cannot find certainty in our intellectual conclusions. Ultimately, all turmoils will need man to total dependence on God. The actions of such a man cannot be understood by the society which may brand it as mental illness. In a talk, when somebody refers to people suffering from mental illness ( lack of chit ta swadinam), Paramacharya says all who have not known the Atman actually suffer from such an illness. Yours faithfully, Sankarraman Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Add photos, events, holidays, whatever.
