Guest guest
Dear Chittaranjanji, "I see that your understanding is very close to mine, and, considering that this kind of understanding is considered somewhat heretic by many people, I welcome your comaradarie." It is a bit unfortunate that a position seems so unusual and heretic despite being an exact paraphrase of what Shankara says over and over again. The first text that I was taught seriously by a Guru was the recension Yoga Vasistha by Abhinanda Pandita, so basically my position is what is given in that text. It says (translation by Swami Venkatesananda): "There is no division, no difference, no distinction. Hence the universe can be said to be both real and unreal: real because of the reality of consciousness which is its own reality, and unreal because the universe does not exist as universe, independent of consciouness." Regards, Rishi.

Hence the universe can be said to be both real and unreal: real because of the reality of consciousness which is its own reality, and unreal because the universe does not exist as universe, independent of consciouness." praNAms Rishi prabhuji Hare Krishna Yes, shankara too says the same thing in sUtra bhAshya ArambhaNAdhikaraNa " the prakruti/mAya/universe is fictitiously imagined by avidyA as though they were identical with the omniscient lord, name and form undefinable either as Ishwara himself or distinct from him, the cause of this manifold world of mundane life, are called in the scriptures (shruti & smruti texts) mAya causal potentiality and prakruti... Elsewhere in the bhAshya the same has been explained as *anirvachanIya* (tattvAnyatvAbhyAm anirvachanIya) by the illustration of foam which is not quite the same as water but yet not a different entity either... It is also interesting to note here that shankara comparing universe/mAya with nAma rUpa upAdhikruta Ishwara and NOT with nirguNa nirupAdhika, nirvishEsha parabrahman that which is the ultimate reality of scriptures & shankara siddhAnta. Hari Hari Hari Bol!!! bhaskar
