Namaste :

I would like to thank you all for giving me a place in this great

cyber sangha. I just read a few posts on 'Faith' and this observation

made by Sri Madhathil Rajendran Nair's caught my attention :

" I am afraid, we don't have any use for those two words in

advaita, where we are too sure of the soundness of the mother ship and

have irrevocably surrendered to her bosom."

This is a very apt description. I have heard devotees

describing 'shraddha' as surrendring to the Lotus feet of the mother

Goddess. Only a great devotee of Mother can express a sentiment such

as this - resting one's head at the Bosom of the Great Mother. This

is called 'vakshasthalam' and devi herself resides in the Bosom of

her Lord's heart. One of the names of Devi is 'Tara' which means 'one

who saves.' SHE is the ship who will help you cross the ocean of

Samsara. In advaita, you surrender your 'self'. What can be a greater

surrender than this ? The self here is the 'ego' .

In the srimad Bhagvad Gita, Sri Krishna says

sattvanurupa sarvasya

*sraddha* bhavati bharata

*sraddha-mayo* 'yam puruso

yo yac-chraddhah sa eva sah ( chapter 17 verse 3)

The faith of each is in accordance with his nature, O Bharata. Man

consists of his faith; as a man's faith is, so is he.

AS A MAN'S FAITH SO IS HE (Yo yat Shraddhaah sa eva sah) --- Man is

verily what his FAITH is. The type of personality and its

effectiveness or otherwise are all determined by the 'FAITH' under

which it functions. That the achievement of life, is ever coloured by

the type of 'FAITH' with which the individual pursues his activities,

is very well known and realised by all men of action says POOJYA

GURUDEV Swami Chinmayanandaji.

In Srimad Bhagvat Gita , Sri Krishna says :

ye tu dharmamrtam idam

yathoktam paryupasate

*sraddadhana* mat-parama

bhaktas te 'tiva me priyah (chapter 12 verse 20)

They indeed, who follow this 'Immortal DHARMA' (Law of Life) as

described above, endowed with faith, regarding Me as their Supreme

Goal --- such devotees are exceedingly dear to Me.

Shradha is three fold. Faith in The scriptures. Faith in one's guru.

Faith in the words of holy saints .
