How Fortunate are we that we are able to read two knowledgeble posts

from our regular contributor Chitta-ji on Saraswati Devi and from our

most respected moderator , Sri Ananda Wood-ji.

In His post number 30066, Sri Ananda wood traces the etymology of

many words while discussing 'Faith and Belief' in the context of

Advaita and in our perennial quest for Truth and knowledge !

Sri Ananda Woodji cocludes his Brilliant post in this last para

thus :

(The same subjective and spiritual inclination is described by the

Greek word 'philosophia', which indicates a love ('philo-') of true

knowledge ('sophia') that is sought by reflective questioning of

'doxa' or 'belief'. )

Sophia - the Greek Goddess of wisdom and knowledge - Sophia is wise,

righteous, knowledgeble, creative , loving, giving, truthful ,

protective etc etc etc . Sophia is mentioned in the wisdom books of

the Bible . More importantly, Sophia is never afraid of speaking

the 'Truth'. She communicates well.

Thank you Sri Anananda-ji

Philosophy - love of knowledge -What a beautiful expression !

Where knowledge flows like river Saraswati in this great group from

the pens of respected members like Sri Ananadaji and Sri Chittaji,

What else is needed ? except the LOVE AND KNOWLEDGE of the Atma -

the goal of all Advaitic knowledge .

Sri Anandaji goes on to add

(That love of truth implies a relentless spiritual commitment --

which will not give up until all trace of falsity has been discovered

and removed, on the way from confused and misleading appearances to

unmixed reality. I would say that such a commitment is the essence of

the English word 'faith' and the Sanskrit word 'shraddha')

'COMMITMENT'- one of the main ingredients in any successful spiritual

quest. Our Sadhana should be regular and continuous .

Sunderji mentioned about 'Advaitic discipline' in another context.

But basically this disciplie consists of ' Sravanam - Mananam -

Nididhyasana' - That is 'shraddha' in a nutsshell- trust, faith,

belief, commitment and abhyasa .....

On another note , the greek word for faith or trust is 'Pistis' - and

you combine 'Pistis' with 'sophia' what do we get ? 'Pistis Sophia' -

faith in WISDOM ! I would request Tonyji, Michaelji or any other

member familiar with bibilical references to comment on this! :-)

Chitta's post on Saraswati ( 30071 )

SARASWATI - THE HINDU GODDESS OF LEARNING AND WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE.

She is known as Vedagarbha (the womb or source of the Vedas or

knowledge), Sarvavidyasvarupini (whose form is all the sciences),

Sarvasastravasini (who dwells in all books), Granthakarini (who

causes books to be made), and many other such names. She is also

known as Vak devi.

Chitta , i was simply overwhelmed with joy after reading your post.

Adi shankara bhagvadapada has composed a hymn to Goddess Saraswathy

which goes like this

Amala-kamalaadhivasini

maanaso vaimalyadaayini manoine i

sundara-gaatri susheele

tava charanaambhoruham

narnaami sadaa ii

(O Goddess, You live in the lotus of purity,

You make the mind pure, and You are known by the inner mind.

You are beautiful as well as virtuous. I offer my salutation at Your

lotus feet at all times.)

Thank you !

WHEN KNOWLEDGE AND BHAKTI FLOW CONTINUOUSLY LIKE A RIVER POST AFTER

POST, CAN THE ADVAITIN OCEAN BE EVER DRY ?

SRI GURUBYO NAMAHA
