Guest guest
Namaste Saraswatiji, Though rupa changes Mother is ever the same! In attempting to invade my own country I trip over a snake/rope. What sort of analogy is that? I make it an inductive-deductive analogy. When properties are similar we assume the same cause or a similar nature behind it. For example electricity and lightning have similar properties, they look like each other and if we fly a kite with a key attached in a thunder storm we may get a similar shock. The respect in which perception is said to like confusion is the transfer of the properties of one thing on to another. This is the characteristic that they share. We suppose that there is a fundamental nature that they both share that makes this possible. This we take to be consciousness and it leads us to consider that in some mysterious way both the object outside the mind and the object within the mind are the same or something like that. It is out of such rough lumber that the gallows is constructed to hang reason. There's the rope! Best Wishes, Michael.
Guest guest
ref post 30085 Michael-ji ! Namaste : you state : ( Though rupa changes Mother is ever the same! ) This brought a smile to my face. You do have a wonderful sense of humor . True ! Very True! Even the forms and names may change - SHE may be full of 'shakti ( energy ) one time and at other times she may sparkle with wisdom but THE great MOTHER'S 'Consciouness' is always the same ! She is the 'fire pit of consciousness ; - chidagnikunda! Even the Saraswati river may run'dry' sometimes but the Ganga is forever flowing .... eternal and never changes its course! that is how 'Consciousness' is! So. let me assure you, michael-ji, there is no dulaistic enigma here ! only in our perception of names and forms! :-) Thank you so much for bringing into focus the 'inductive and deductive' aspects of analogy . I had forgotton all about that - my Philosophy professor in my undergrad days used to talk about that all the time . That was so long ago. It is amusing you should say ' to invade my country' while tripping over a snake/ rope! Yes- the rope may be the same all over the Globe but the snake takes many forms , sizes and shapes - from Rattlesnakes to Boa Constrictors- AS FAR AS 'SNAKE IS CONCERNED - it is just a 'symbol' it can reprsent 'evil' or something 'divine' ... as a Kundalini shakti ( devatma shakti) , She is 'knowledge' and 'wisdom ' that yogi's love to Befriend. Sri Ramakrishna used to say 'the poison in the snake ' does not affect the snake - how come it poisons the man/woman the snake bites ? That is the power of 'maya' -to a jnani, Maya is not something to be afraid of because he/she is not in dehatma buddhi. Analogies have their uses upto a point just like metaphors and similies . but we need top go beyond the analogies and look at the whole picture! That is where the help of a 'sadguru' is needed. In closing , I like to leave you with this favorite quote of mine Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said: "The highest problem of every art is, by means of appearances, to produce the illusion of a loftier reality." and as we have seen in this forum 'Language is such an art' ps - btw, i will not be particpating in these discussions any more as it is time for me to rest my eyes as i am scheduled for surgery in a week! I thank the moderators for their hospitality and courtesy and giving me an opportunity to voice my opinions . I pray to the Goddess that let this group grow by leaps and bounds and reach the magic figure of 2000 by the end of the year . There is strenth in numbers at all evels . Let the one become many ! ( any pun intended is unintentional) :-) warmest regards
