Guest guest
To further corroborate with the theory of an off-beat foundation to the ego, one simple physiological fact is drawn to the foreground. Turning our attentions to sensorial percepetion, for instance sight, our perception of the world speaks for itself. There has been a proved delay between what we see and what is actually happening, simply because it takes time for the electrical impulses carrying visual input to arrive at the brain (even though a fraction of a fraction of a second). We actually dwell a very short instant in the past. So how could we interact with a world from which we see things only after they have happened? There is only one way around this, and it is the "cinema" effect. We see (hear, taste, smell and feel) very small glimpses of the world, always "zeroing" the current status before taking another measurement, like the flashing of frames in the movies, which upon going beyond 24 per second gives the impression of continuity. What is the practical implication of this fact in human time perception? It could be said that under the impression of individuality, being jerked around by the raging horses of the senses and an uncontrolled mind, time is perceived backwards, simply because the end of an infinitely small state in time of the sense organs is allways zero (the blackness between one frame and the next), hence we can only perceive what was before nothing is. This is an infinite chain. And so, every theory (including this one) and logical conclusion drawn from this sense can only be turned backwards too. For instance, Darwin's theory of natural selection is, to someone who does not believe in randomness, flipped inside out. Wasn't the game over the very instant the bird with a better beak was born, or did all the other less appropriate birds had to die in order for that to happen? Even worst, wouldn't it be that the game was obviously over, but we just came to see it, in our arrogance, when he was the sole survivor, and (i am not criticizing Darwin here) as we do with all other affairs of the world, turned the order upside-down as in "everybody else died, - because - he was better adapted", just so we could accomodate the perception of the ego (this is also not an argument for creationism, it is just a matter of perspective)? Closing my argument, the key seems to be in seeking consciousness before awareness of it. It may be that i have said all of this to attest to the power of intuition. But then again, how easy is it to see our intuitive nature when being infinitely fed with external stimulus? This is very much what Jazz is. Being fed by intuition first, the jazzman plays note after not, hearing them at the same time as any audience member. The sole difference is that he heard all of them in his mind, before they were notes, when they were a pure concept (samanya). And they -all- were translated into the world of perception in a backwards sense, since the jazz beat has the second and fourth times felt stronger than the first - so how would it be possible to improvise aiming at every second note you play, since you don't know the first one, if the world was not perceived backwards? Even worst, how can music completely built in a backwards sense, sound forward, if all our senses were not turned backwards as well? *** To further tie-up a parallel betwenn jazz and our issue, the song is understood (between real jazzists) as a framework in which to improvise. Harmony and melody provide the guidelines one should be mindful of. The scriptures are our Harmony, our Song and Melody. It seems to me that in order to dissolve the improper conscience of consciousness, the difference in phase has to be destroyed. And since mind has been entirely erected upon this mis-conception, the key seems to be to turn perceived time backwards with enough power that it merges with the source of consciousness and continuity, hence destroying mind and ego and allowing the waves of consciousness to be synchronized, until they vibrate in perfect unison.
