This has always been a charged topic on Internet discussion lists.

And for the last few days it has generated quite a few posts,

motivating several of our members to go over out quota of 2 posts per

day. The discussion has also occasionally veered close to the edges

of what we would consider on-topic for the list.

Nevertheless it's an important topic, and should be discussed.

Here's a suggestion, if you would like to converse about this more

than twice a day. Let's move that extra part of the discussion off-

list in a way that would still allow the "advaitin" membership the

benefit of the participants' research, passion and scholarship. I

suggest the following:

1. Anyone who would like to participate in the discussion, send your

name and e-mail address in a mail message to:

"advaitins"

2. I will compile the list and send the names to all those who wrote

in. There will be several updates

3. You will then be able to participate amongst yourselves.

4. At some later point, someone can if they wish compile a summary

of the discussion, and I will post it on the advaitin list itself.

NOTE: Beginning now, I will place on moderation any members who

continue to post more than twice a day. This is only a friendly

reminder, done in the full cognizance that this topic is important

and dramatic. Moderation will come off as soon as possible!

I'm also open to other suggestions, but again, if you send them on-

list, pls keep to 2 posts per day.

Thank you Gregji for the suggestion. However, I would not like to

see the discussions being carried out in private among a few. I

would like to see the posts as usual. We should of course continue

to enforce the two posts rule, but making the discussions private

will shut out many members who may not be actively posting but are

nevertheless reading the posts keenly. I request all participants to

follow strictly the two-posts-per-day guideline.

Namaste Greg Goode-ji;

I am sorry for asking you to bend the rules like this, but can't the

rule of 2 posts be relaxed a bit in cases such as this? I mean, it is

not that every subject generates such reaction, and this is clearly an

issue that needs to be discussed... It is indeed beautiful to see the

controversial nature of some subjects and the multitude of reactions

and viewpoints. And in this case, i am sure this is a recurring and

thorny issue, but given the small quantity of posts generated in the

last few days and the heated reaction this topic generated, it seems

that this is one topic that certainly needs an open discussion, as i

am sure some other members may have pointed out their interest in

reading as many mails as they come about it.

Maybe things could be relaxed to a measure of common sense, say,

something like fewer than 5 posts a day (only til the argument cools

off)? Most of us are only reading, anyway.

Well, my warmest regards...
