Namaste Advaitins:

Long ago i had heard about a work of Sri Appayya Dikshita titled:

Chatur-mata-saamarasyam. This work is said to contain the Author's way of

bringing about a consensus between the four systems of Philosophy: Advaita,

Visishtadvaita, Dvaita and the Shaiva siddhanta. A line from a verse/prose of

the above work, as i know it is:

Anandatirthamuni-Lakshmanadesikendra-Srikantayogi-padaviiradaviiyasiir-naH.

The names of the Three Acharyas, Sri Madhwa, Sri Ramanuja and Sri Srikanta,

are invoked in this line.

Does anyone have information about this work? Sri Sundarji, Sri

Neelakantanji, Sri Sankararamanji ... pl. respond.

Although not very pertinent, it seems that Sri Dikshitar's mother hailed from

a Visishtadvaitin family.

With warm regards,

subbu

VI.CHATURMATA SARA SANGRAHA

Edited by Mahamahopadhyaya Dr.P.Sriramachandrudu and

Dr.K.Sitaramanjaneyulu

Pp.690.Price.Rs.250. US $30.

This book comprises four sections or Parichedas.

The First section "Nyaya Mukthavali" deals with the interpretation of

Brahmasutra Bhashya according to the Dvaita school of Sri Madhvacharya.

The Second section "Nayamayukhamalika" deals with the interpretation

of Brahmasutra Bhashya according to the Visishtadvaita school of Sri

Ramanujacharya.

The Third section "Nayamanimala" deals with Srikantha's interpretation

according to the Sivadvaita system.

The Fourth section "Nayamanjari" deals with Sri Sankara's

interpretation according to the Advaita system.

Thus, the book is unique in the world of Hindu scriptural literature,

in that the author has faithfully co-related and explained the

intricate interpretations of the four famous schools of Philosophy in

a purely objective manner.

The book bears ample testimony to Sri Deekshita's tolerance and

ardent desire for the reconciliation of different views. The present

publication is further enriched by the inclusion of the following

allied monograms.

• 1.Chaturmata Samarasyam: This scholarly and illuminating

article by Sastra Ratnakara Polagam Sri Rama Sastry serves the purpose

of an authentic introduction to the book.

• 2.The brilliant introduction to the Advaita section

(Nayamanjari) by Sri Sachidananda Theertha Swami.

All the above books (I to VI) are the original works of Sri Appayya

Deekshita and are in Sanskrit language. Besides these the Samithi has

also published a biography of Sri Deekshita in English. APPAYYA

DIKSHITA by Dr.N.Ramesan I.A.S. This is a well-documented work and

perhaps the only Biography of Sri Deekshita in English.

Pp.180.Price Rs 50. US $ 6.

Regards,

Sunder

well, Subbuji , here is another interesting fact about this great

saint.

"Appayya Dikshitar is considered as an Avatar of Lord Siva. When he

went to the Tirupathi temple in South India, the Vaishnavas refused

him admission. The next morning they found the Vishnu Murti in the

temple changed into Siva Murti. The Mahant was much astonished and

startled, and he asked pardon of Appayya Dikshitar and prayed to him

to change the idol again into Vishnu Murti."

We do not know how far this a fact or a fiction but such miracles did

take place in those days .

here is more on Mahan Appayya dikshitir

born at ADAYAPALAM, a village near Vellore, 7 Kilometres from Arni,

Vedanta, Bhakthi etc., including "Sivarkamani Dipika". Various great

personalities are / were the descendants of Shri. Appaya Dikshita,

including the eminent PALAMADAI NILAKANTA DIKSHITAR, Minister to

Madurai King Thirumalai Nayyakar. Other well known descendants
