Guest guest
To concerned guru brothers and sisters, //jay gurudev//, I’m veryy sorry about the chaos I’ve caused in . I believe that this all misunderstanding took place because of my posting about scanning. I had written to publish only 1 scanned copy of the magazine with the idea to inform about the newcomers of its contents. I had not mentioned to scan every months issue and post it somewhere in cyberspace. Arvind dai took it very seriously and you were right …ok I admit that my idea wasn’t so appropriate and baseless. I’m very impulsive in my actions. You could have warned me about the potential damage it would cause like u warned me before in my postings..i deeply regret for my statement. Nevertheless I’m just 17 and my views and thoughts may be childish, baseless and wrong. I must admit u have an excellent foresight. There was no need to be so very serious. We could have thought it over later in a cool mind and rectify our mistakes..i didn’t know that it would shut down the whole site altogether. Frankly speaking 4 gurudai’s including me had teamed up in making a website thinking that the websites in search category of many search engines r filthy. While asking gurudev for permission he didn’t allow us to do so.. After all this I think of the consequences that would have arisen if we had started the site. As for copyright issues..don’t we have any rights to spread gurudev’s divine words? Why does this money have to come in between?? Ok I translated an article from a magazine back in november and posted.now I realized that it was against copyright..what a joke. I would have better written that so and so pravachan is nice pls buy the cassette. “ All rights of the producer and the owner of the recorded work reserved. Un- authorized copying. Public performance and broadcasting of the cassette is prohibited” we being disciples have no authority even to jot down, translate and tell the world gurudev’s views . and…”patrika me prakashit sabhi rachanaon ka adhikaar patrika ka hai” no rights to copy sadhna procedures, no rights for nothing…what a paradox. Is gurudev’s wani and sadhna procedure is copyrighted????? We don’t have any rights??? If one comes up with an answer to silly question posted on and furnishes his views with slokes and gurudev’s agyas..that means that he has done something against copyright act..coz the sloka and the high thoughts and examples had already been published in magazine. And u r stealing from it. <”V= If u are so inclined to perform Sewa, then why dont u translate hindi books into English and submit it to Gurudev. That will be a propoer Sewa. And many non-Hindi Sadhaks in India and abroad will benfit from that. For example, non-hindi speakers today cant taste the divine elixier of Guru-Gita or Nikhil Stavan today”> we can’t do that!!! Its against copy right acts… Finally I would like to sincerely ask forgiveness for all these things. With gurudev’s permission I think that the future website shall flourish. I won’t leave my idea of scanning totally. I shall be joining stray bits of stotras etc from very old gems from different sources and if I get some good stotras via other means I shall definitely scan and send to for benefit of all like I sent the batuk bhairava stotra. Guest guest
Jai Gurudev Amitji, Words are Power Supreme! If some words on copyright can cause such a big mess & misunderstanding, then surely a Mantra chanted with devotion sud be very powerful and capable of Divine feats!! ;-) Amitji, u r right, and there is no need to be so apologetic. u haven't made any mistake at all. In fact I sud laud and commend the big efforts put in by yrself, Amanji and others in preparing such wonderful articles. Your idea of a "sample" Hindi magazine on website is a very good idea, and I am all for it. I, however believe that www.siddhashram.org is the correct place for it (as they maintain issue extracts). We sud pass this idea to Gurudham, so that it can be accomplished. As far as copyright issue is concerned, of course, Gurudev's words and pravachans & Sadhanas sud be transmitted and spread to as much people as possible. we sud endeavor to do more and more prachar so that more and more people benefit from this divine elixir. And, the only way to do prachar is by taking extracts from books, magazines & cassettes; and to use it. I agree that the entire process of IPR & copyrights is a big paradox. But it is a big legal issue as well. However, and it is my OWN understanding of copyright issue. We can always take EXTRACTS, and always mention details about the actual origin of material. For example, if we take some stuff from cassette, we sud mention that this is extracted from so&so cassette. And we sud endeavor to provide only extracts (and not the entire cassette or book). This will provide a path & direction for any newcomer, and (s) he can always go ahead and read the entire book. I am sure that u will agree with me that if u pick up any one of Gurudev's books, u will find that each and every page of the book is full of pearls of knowledge. So, why sudnt we direct any new-comer to read the entire book and gain full knowledge. Most of Gurudev's books were published by independent publishing companies like Pustak Mahal, Anand Paper backs, Hind Pocket books, Sadhana packet books, Sahni Publications etc. etc. Gurudham started publishing books thru S-Series only in 1990s. Now, therein lies the catch. COPYRIGHT OF ALL THESE 500 (OR MORE) BOOKS LIE WITH THESE PUBLISHERS. And, these publishers might create a potential legal problem ( and correctly so), if we jeopardise their copyright in any way. I don't know. maybe Gurudham bought rights for some of these books for wholesale dissemination, maybe not. Maybe these publishers gave rights only to Gurudham to publish in book/magazine paper form only. Maybe there are other restrictions on rights. In any case it is a legal situation. In any case, it is wiser to be careful, and prevent any mistake. Prevention is better than cure, moreso when we do not know the actual picture. I am sure that Pustak mahal or Sahni Publications of this world are very protective about their IPR rights, and will not want any unauthorised copying, or blatant reproduction or broadcast of these works. We sud avoid falling in a potential legal trap. However, I think (and it is only my belief) that if enough credit is given to the source/origin of the works, and only an extract is reproduced, then in legal terms, maybe, we have a stronger ground. Maybe, we can claim that , implicitly , by spreading & reproducing this info, we are providing free advertising of these works of these publishers. Maybe! Therefore, probably the best way forward is to ONLY reproduce extracts (NOT ENTIRE CONTENT), and to always give credit to the origin. One of Gurudev's mission was to make all this knowledge available to the masses, to the entire humanity. Towards this aim, He wrote so many books and worked tirelessly. We have a duty to follow up on that work, to make this info available to everyone. Maybe, spreading extracts of these gems of knowledge will prompt people to actually go ahead and read the entire book & benefit from it. About English translation of Guru-Gita , Nikhil Stavan etc. What I actually meant was that most of our books are in Hindi language. It will be a good thing if someone sits down, translates these books into English, and submit this translation to Gurudham. Let Gurudham publish it. We do not want credit for this translation. (Best Service is the one done in secret, without publicity (gupt-sewa)). This might speeden up the task of bringing more and more books in English. btw Amitji, How were your exams? Has the result come? How did u score?? You have best wishes of all of us, Jai Gurudev,
