I am very interested to know where you read about receiving a mantra from a guru who has attained Kechari mudra. It may interset you to know in kriya yoga tradition, when you attain kechari mudra you get the second kriya initiation. Historically this was done in several places by cutting the underside of the tongue and then treating with turmeric/?? to make the tongue longer. This has brought disrepute to a lot of pseudo gurus as something went wrong in the cutting of the tongue. So Kashyap, is someone wants to initiate you into Kechari mudra by cutting the tongue, beware of him as it can be very dangerous. I read about it a while ago. But there was a yogi from India who cam to Michigan to teach some yog for holistic health. So I went the first day. He expplained in little datail the science behind in pranayam. Then he got to the JAP part. He said you should get a mantra from a guru who has attained kechari mudra.
