in order to help those who are not in india appreciate the

usefulnesses of the file uploaded by charanjit, i am reposting an

article by me which appeared on sadhak on conversion of sarvaarth

siddhi amrit siddhi yogs for places outside india--that includes all

festivals too to be precise.

Sarvarth siddhi, amrit siddhi, guru pushya yogs are formed by the

combinations of certain nakshatras and week day or hindi tithi.

Just like the zodiac is made of twelve signs, it is also made of 27

nakshatras. So each zodiac occupies approximately 2.25 nakshatras.

Just like the planets move from one sign to the next, they also move

form one nakshatra to the next.

I give an example of a Guru Pushya Yog in India from 8.30 p.m.

thursday to sunrise next, friday morning. GURU pushya starts the

moment moon moves to Pushya nakshatra from Punarvasu. and it happens

to be a thursday. In the Indian system thursday is supposed to start

the moment sun rises on thursday morning. It remains a thursday till

next day friday sunrise.

Movement of planets from one nakshatra to the next is independent of

the place on earth you view it from. Moon remains in a nakshtra for

approximately 24 hrs.

So if Guru pushya starts in India 8.30 p.m., in Brussels, Europe it

is Guru pushya at 4.00 pm. (local time), in New York, U.S. it is GURU

pushya already at 10.00 a.m. local time, and in Los Angeles, U.S. it

is Guru pushya at 7.00 a.m. already (if sun has risen by then, else

it starts at sunrise).

Similarly sankranti is the time when sun moves from one rashi to

the next, and that happens at a particular instant. Punya kaal of

sankranti is 6 hrs before and after the exact moment should be taken

accordingly.

The same rule applies to tithis. i.e. the change of tithi is an

instant independent of place on earth. So it is possible that it is

dwitiya in India, and tritiya in US on 2nd of january. because the

tithi for the day is the tithi at sunrise.

There is usually a minor 15 to 20 minutes variation in this change

from place to place which i do not fully understand, however taking

local time conversions is a safe bet.....
