Dear friends,

can you please tell me......after death our soul goes to the

Pitralok after Shraadh is performed......or do Yamadoots take

us.....??...........there is a sort of confusion.........

What happens if shraadh is not performed........then the yamdoots dont come to take us.....??

Also do tell me the importance of Vishnusahasranaam stotra.........or is the

Shivsahasranaam stotra effective in pleasing god.....

please tell me about these things......

kanishk

--- kanishk,

You can chant Vishnu sahstranaam if you have devotion for Vishnu and

shiv sahastranam if you have devotion for shiv. Done regularly, both

will provide you with what you seek. Though I guess Vishnu

sahastranaam is more popular. Phal stuti is usually given in the end.

It ends with

Sri Ram Rameti Rame rame manorame Sahasranama Tattulyam Rama Nama

Varanane.

What does that mean?

As for what happens to the dead, there are no simple answers I guess.

Usually your own belief system will play a very important role.

Vivekanand also says something to this effect that you will get and

see exactly what you expect to. If you are not dazed by the western

terminology on the site I sent, may be you will be able to get some

idea and try to realte it your own notion. His work reinforces my

beliefs at least. Also remember that bruce moen is also not a

trained yogi, and as happens in this case the higher truths are

always clouded by your own prejudices and preconceived notions.

Shradh is perhaps a way of sending positive vibration to your

ancestors and a way of expressing gratitude for the body you received

from them. what happens if shradh is not done is difficult for me to

say.

Made myself a profile. --you should all too. actually I saw

some of yours and that inspired me. but comments are welcome in my

thanks for answering about shraadh.......

It is written in the Puraans that shraadh is essential.......

My question was that if The amadoots take a person for Judgment to

Yamaraj....then what is the purpose of shraadh....??

kanishk.

once people die they loose their right to perform karma. what is so

unique about human birth --shudra or brahman is that you can

manufacture karma which will take you on to the destination of being

one with GOD.

true all souls are judged by their own deeds. the living people here

have a right to do something and their good karma or special rites go

in the direction of nullyfing the reasons (negative karma of

ancestors) that got the ancestors in a difficult position. (though

they are not always in a difficult position). a difficult position

can be pret yoni or the yoni of an animal. so your rites helps them

free themselves of this and move on.

some even go a step further say that we who are living today are the

ancestors of someone else, and so on. so perhaps all these rites go

in the direction of our own welfare!!

Kanishk Ji:

You can check out this site: http://www.near-death.com .

It's a collection of unbiased after-life accounts by people of

various backgrounds. And it clearly shows that your experience is

dependent on the mental conditioning you've received.

You may also read Chapter 43 of the Autobiography of a Yogi (by

Paramahansa Yogananda), titled "The Resurrection of Sri Yukteswar".

This gives a very clear account of the afterlife in the astral

planes. It's certainly my favorite chapter in the book :-)

It can now be found online at:

http://www.adesha.com/autobiography/chap43/chap43.html

or

http://www.adesha.com/autobiography for the entire book.

Chanting 1000 names of Vishnu confers more devotion and desire for

liberation.
