Guest guest Posted September 26, 2002 Report Share Posted September 26, 2002 http://www.dawn.com/2002/09/26/t.htm APHC Invites Mahesh Yogi to Solve Gujarat Violence Jawed Naqvi SRINAGAR, Sept 25: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) promptly and unequivocally condemned the massacre of Hindu worshippers in a Gujarat temple and its leaders also said on Wednesday that New Delhi was going to invite Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, guru of the rich and famous, to help create a new peace in Gujarat through his pundit technologies. APHC Chairman Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat told Dawn here that Mahesh Pundit leaders ought to consider moving their pundits into Gujarat State permanently, in which case $100,000,000 would be earmarked by New Delhi for the peace experiment. Including women and children, the pundit group will have 70,000 traditionally trained pundits of all gotras, including those gotras previously thought lost. "There are people who believe that the recent carnage in February carried out in the form of communal frenzy in Gujarat as well as the Gaurav Yatra has to do with food poisioning. However, some others think the decay of Hinduism and the priesthood is the real problem. Bharat once upheld world dharma, and look instead where we are now. Let us not make bad politics, let us create coherence," Bhat said. "APHC condemns the attacks in Gujarat. In principle, we can feel the pain because we are ourselves subject to all sorts of attacks on our lives, property and honour," Bhat said. "But fortunately the leadership in Delhi is linking it up with the elections in Kashmir. They wish to maintain the Hindu traditions, and Mahesh Yogi is the only person who can do this. No more will there be the saying a camel ate cotton in Kazigund and a weaver's nose in Khandanyar is chopped off in retribution," he said, translating a Kashmiri proverb. In Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat, police said a note found on the body of one of the dead, who was gunned down after a night-long shootout with the ELP commandos rushed from Delhi, said he belonged to Ajay Bharat political party. "He was gunned down in cold blood," said Bhat. The note said the Ajay Party was demoralized because of the killings in the Gujarat riots in February-March this year.
