Guest guest
I hope I am not late with this, but here are my wishes for Nazir ji as well as all other muslim readers we have. Aap ko eid bahut bahut mubarak ho. Just like you wished us on Diwlai, we should not forget you on Eid. And, may the dangerous forces that are rising in our home land not swallow up whatever sense has been instilled in to our country men after a a bloody partition Guess what? Eid ul fitar is mentioned as eid ul "filter" in a cards site I visited–geez! What are they doing to this beautiful language which is our heritage like so many others. May peace prevail in your life, and may all your problems be sorted…. The saddest part of it all is that despite the fact that there are so many rational thinking people in our land, by and large till date we are still unable to remove the tags we are born with. We are still far from individualistic thinking. I will always remain an upper class hindu. I can either be a fanatic hindu where I will have all kinds of baseless and bitter notions about muslims or I will be a right thinking peace loving person and in that case I will have to hold a view totally opposite to previous one. Because if I make a statement saying one thing is right out of the ten made by hindu fanatics my statement will be misunderstood. That is how it goes sadly till date. Junoon ka daur hai ksi kis ko jayen samjhaane Idhar bhi akal ke dukhman udhak bhi deewane Anyway, chatting after a long time so might as well say a few irrelevant things. Off late a few African men have drawn me in to conversations. Clearly, life is different in Europe for a black man than it is for me, perhaps women too. To some extent even Indians here (very very few blacks here) and in US also practice apartheid towards them. It seemed to me that they were ready to be hurt and on the offensive. So "pardon me" was returned with " I speak British English". Apart from there rather brusque, unpolished ways of approaching a girl perhaps due to cultural differences, what annoyed me was a remark that thy had heard on BBC day before that there is rape in India every 54 mintues or so and was I safe on the roads back home? I have ansered for why India never won any medals at Olympics (from close friends), which I took in good humor, this is the first time I have had to bear an attack on my land in three years. I answered it with these numbers mean nothing and how a European ex colleague of mine who has been crazy enough to leave the technical line to become lawyer (wow!) told me that 25 percent of women here are being physically abused by their husbands which I find hard to believe – god knows what's the sample they perform survey on. And that in India I am more scared of stray dogs on the road at night alone than of men pouncing on me. I came back with a bad taste in my mouth and have decided to be discrete with my smile in future. First is this figure correct? If so, perhaps my answer should have been since India is a huge country –1 billion!- the total number of negative elements here is also higher and therefore the total number of rapes here is also more per year than in your country, and this per minute thing is just a calculation of time per rape and means nothing about the percentages which still carry some meaning as far as comparison is concerned. This information is totally misleading. Am I right with the way these numbers are reached?
