THE PLANET IS RED (LIKE A FLAME) AND CAN BE VIEWED WITH NAKED EYE, IN THE EASTERN DIRECTION, AFTER DARK. Concerning the positioning of planets, maybe it's an auspicious period for sadhna, can learned friends verify and advise the group about this issue. ACCORDING TO VEDIC ASTROLOGY, MARS IS A WAR PLANET. IN SANSKRT, IT IS CALLED "ANGAARAKA" (meaning FLAME RED) AND "MANGAL" (meaning AUSPICIOUS) . MARS IS A FIERY PLANET AND IT'S EFFECTS ON HUMAN MINDS ARE ANXIETY, TENSION, RUTHFULNESS, AND SHORT TEMPEREDNESS ETC. IT RULES OVER PERSISTENCE, LOGIC AND ACTION. MURDER, ARMED DACOITY, POLITICAL UPRISINGS, WARS, REVOLUTIONS, INTRIGUES, CONSPIRACIES AND ILLICIT LOVE ARE CAUSED BY THIS PLANET. HIS (THE PLANET GOD’S) SUBSTANCES ARE COPPER, TIN, TOBACCO, HEMP AND MINERALS. HIS HAUNTS ARE MINES, ARMOURIES, BATTLE-FIELDS, WASTE LANDS AND KITCHENS. ANGAARAK IS THE LORD OF THE SOUTH. IT AFFECTS/CONTROLS BONE MARROW, BILE, VIENS, AND ADOLESCENCE. AFFLICTIONS CAUSED BY THIS PLANET ARE BLEEDING, ABORTIONS, MENSTRUAL DISORDERS, ACCIDENTAL WOUNDS/DEATHS, BURNS, HIGH FEVER AND RHEUMATIC COMPLAINTS. HE RULES OVER INHERITED LAND, BROTHERS, ENEMIES, SCANDAL-MONGERS, THIEVES AND POLICEMEN. IT IS OBSERVED THAT PERSONS WITH ANGAARAK (MARS) AS THE ACENDENT (LAGNA) IN THEIR HOROSCOPES ARE SUCCESFUL SPORTSMEN. PERSONIFIED, ANGAARAKA (MARS) IS REGARDED AS THE OFFSPRING OF MOTHER EARTH. HENCE HE IS CALLED “BHAUMA”, “BHOOMIJA” , “KUJA” AND “DHARAATMAJA”. HIS BIRTH IS NARRATED IN THE “BRAHMA VAIVARTHA PURANA” THAT WHEN THE EARTH GODDESS LOOKED AT “UPENDRA” (A FORM OF VISHNU), SHE BECAME LOVE-LORN AND BEGOT ANGAARAKA IN THE OCCULT WORSHIP, ANGAARAKA IS DESCRIBED AS REDDISH HUE IN COMPLEXION BUT CRUEL IN LOOKS. HE RIDES A “MESHA” (GOAT/RAM-ARIES OF THE ZODIAC) AND FREQUENTS FORESTS. HE IS ESPECIALLY POWERFUL DURING AFTERNOONS. HE IS FOND OF BITTER OR PUNGENT TASTE. HE RESIDES IN THE SOUTHERN DIRECTION AND BELONGS TO THE “KSHATRIYA” CASTE; HIS PERSONALITY IS DOMINATED BY “TAMO GUNA” (SLOTHFUL AND DULL). THIS PLANET REMAINS IN EACH OF THE ZODIACAL SIGNS FOR ABOUT 45 DAYS. WHEN THE POSITION GETS AFFECTED, IT EXERTS UNPLEASANT INFLUENCES ON HUMAN BEINGS. ANGAARAKS’ FIRST TUTELLARY DEITY (ADHIDEVATHA) IS “PRTHVI”(MOTHER EARTH) AND SECOND TUTELLARY DEITY (PRATHYADHI DEVATHA) IS “KUMAARA” OR “SKANDA” (SUBRAHMANYA OR KARTHIKEYA). ACCORDING TO SOME TEXTS, KUMAARA IS THE OTHER NAME OF LORD AGNI (FIRE GOD). IN THE PURANAS, IT IS SAID THAT, MANGAL, AFTER BEING BORN TO THE MOTHER EARTH, DID SEVERE PENANCE AND APPEASED LORD GANESH, WHO BLESSED HIM WITH THE BOON TO BE ONE AMONG THE 9 PLANETS. HENCE “MANGALVAAR” (TUESDAY) IS HELD SACRED TO LORD GANESH AND THOSE WHO WISH TO TAKE UP “SANKASHTA HARA GANESH CHATURTHI VRATH” SHOULD COMMENCE THE VRATH FROM “ANGAARAK SANKASHTI” i.e., FROM THAT TUESDAY ON WHICH THE VRATH FALLS. THE ABOVE IS SUPPORTED FROM THE KUNDALINI YOGA POINT OF VIEW. LORD GANESHA IS THE PRISIDING DEITY OF THE “MOOLAADHAAR CHAKRA”, THE FIRST OF THE 6 IMPORTANT CHAKRAS IN THE HUMAN BODY. THIS CHAKRA, WHICH IS SAID TO BE LOCATED AT THE BASE OF THE SPINE IS COMPOSED OF “PRTHVI TATWA” (EARTHERN COMPOSITION) AND ITS PRIMARY FUNCTION IS BALANCING OF ALL IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE BODY. IN OUR BHARATHEEYA SANSKRTHI, IT IS SAID THAT A PERSON ACTUALLY HAS 5 MOTHERS: JANMADAAYINI - MAATHA (one’s own mother who has given birth to this mortal body) GO - MAATHA ( mother cow who gives us milk and nourishes us) BHOO - MAATHA ( mother Earth who bears and sustains all living beings) PRAKRTHI - MAATHA ( mother Nature who makes our lives beautiful and purposeful) VEDA - MAATHA (Vedas which enlighten us and help us to cross over this ocean of worldliness and attain salvation) IT IS SAID THAT THE DEBTS OF THESE MOTHERS CAN NEVER BE FULFILLED. HENCE ONE HAS TO BE ALWAYS OBIDIENT AND DUTIFUL TOWARDS THEM, FAILING WHICH HE EARNS THEIR CURSE WHICH HAS NO CURE. IN ASTROLOGY, MARS PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IS IDENTIFYING MOTHER’S CURSE IN AN INDIVIDUAL’S HOROSCOPE. ACCORDINGLY, OUR SHASTRAS DECLARE THAT EVERY PERSON HAS 5 KINDS OF DEBTS: (read RNA as RUNA) DEVA - RNA (Debt towards the Gods. This is got rid off by performing “Yajnas”) PITR - RNA (Debt towards one’s father and forefathers. This is got rid off by getting married and begetting a son) RSHI - RNA (Debt towards the Rshis who gave us the Vedas. This is got rid off by studying the Vedas and teaching the same to others) BHOOTHA - RNA (Debt towards the 5 important elements of nature namely earth, water, fire, air and space. This is got rid off by living in harmony with the Nature and do our best to preserve it’s purity & sanctity. For example, “agnihothra” – the daily fire ritual purifies air that is contaminated by carbon-di-oxide exhaled by us. It is said that the twigs of the Peepal tree liberate plenty of oxygen when put into fire along with ghee, while chanting specific mantras) SAMAAJ - RNA (Debt towards the society. This is got rid off by serving the society in one’s own ways) IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE MENTIONED DEBTS, THERE ARE OTHER WORLDLY DEBTS LIKE THE FINANCIAL DEBT. PLANET MARS SIGNIFIES ALL THESE DEBTS. WORSHIPPING ANGAARAK FREES ONE FROM SUCH DEBTS. KEEPING IN MIND ALL THESE ASPECTS, ANGAARAK OR PLANET MARS SHOULD BE WORSHIPPED ON 27TH AUGUST, 2003 FOR THE ELIMINATION OF DISEASES AND FOR GETTING RID OF DEBTS (RUNA). ALONG WITH MARS, GODDESS BHOOMI DEVI, LORD GANESH, & LORD KARTHIKEYA ALSO SHOULD BE WORSHIPPED. SINCE IT HAPPENS TO BE A WEDNESDAY – THE DAY SACRED FOR LORD MAHA VISHNU, HE ALSO SHOULD BE WORSHIPPED. THIS IS JUSTIFIED BY THE FACT THAT ANGAARAK IS NONE OTHER THAN THE SON OF LORD MAHA VISHNU. MANTRAS AND RITUALS An yantra of Angaarak can be used; or else, just ½ kilo of Thoor Dhal can be used, which represents Planet Mars. The yantra should be placed over Thoor Dhal spread over a plantain leaf in the shape of a triangle . After the ritual is over, this Thoor Dhal should be given to a Brahmin priest or scholar as “Daan” along with “Dakshina” (money). This is very important. I have noticed that some who just don’t this for reasons best known to them, simply won’t get the desired result. One should sit facing the south direction, in front of the yantra and chant the mantra of planet Mars. It is very important to note that one should chant only that mantra which he has obtained from his Guru. This can be the Vedic mantras, or Angaaraka Gaayathri, or moola mantra or whichever it is. Along with this, the “Rna vimOchaka mangala sthothram” can be chanted several times to get rid of debts. All the details of a ritualistic worship like snaan, aachaman, sankalp for the self and dhyaan, aavaahan … abhishek…aarti etc for the yantra should be correctly followed. For advanced Sadhaks it is just enough if they chant the mantra. Chanting Ganesha Atharva Upanishad, Vishnu Sahasranama, Angaarka ashtottara, Lalithaa Sahasranaama, Subrahmanya Sahasranaama, Skanda Shashti Kavacham is also very much beneficial. Only red flowers like the hibiscus should be used.
