We find that the Lord's idol will be by and large smeared with saffron color. We find an interesting story in the RAmAyaN in connection with this: One night, hanumAnji spent long hours, pressing the feet of his beloved Lord Sri rAm. Then, sItA mAtA called hanumAnji and told him that no one should stay inside the Lord's bedroom during night times. But hanumAji, who was as innocent like a baby, asked sItA mAtA how she could then stay with the Lord during night times. The mAtA immediately showed the "sindhoor" (kumkum) in her forehead and told hanumAnji that because she applied sindhoor on her forehead, she could stay with the Lord, all the time. HanumAnji simply nodded and left the place. Next day, HanumAnji applied sindhoor mixed with ginger oil, all over his body and appeared before Lord rAm. Everyone in the court hall burst into laughter. When enquired by the Lord, hanumAnji replied that he did so because he wishes to be near the Lord and serve his feet forever. Highly pleased by this act of hanumAn, the Lord said thus: " hanumAn, today is Tuesday; whoever worships you on this day with sindhoor, will not only be successful in their pursuits/endeavours, but also attains enlightenment" R.Srinath srinath_atreya Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
