Guest guest
Jai Gurudev! Dear Kanupriya ji, I am sure that you have posted this query addressed to gurubahis not to Pujya Gurudev! If that is the case, I feel it is appropriate that you address all Shishyas/Guru Bhai/Behen's simply. There is only one Guru Trimurti. If your query is addressed to Pujya Gurudev, you should send it directly to mtyv I hope you understand the importance of honouring the Shishya Maryada! We can't cross the Laxman Rekha which defines our limits as Shishya's of Pujya Gurudev! Before we embark on the journey to spiritual upliftment, it is important the we achieve Guru Siddhi! Little things such as the one I have indicated, show that we as Shishya's of Pujya Gurudev have to go far to achieve even the basic level of becoming an Adarsha Shishya. I recommend that all Shishya's should keep reading Guru Gita, Durlabhopanishad, Nikhileshwaranand Stavan Stotra's and perform Guru Sadhana regularly to lift ourselves from such a pathetic condition. Only then can we dream of achieving little success in Sadhana. Das Mahavidya Siddhi, Siddhashram will remain a pipe dream for us if we cannot even observe such basic discipline desirable of a Shishya of Param Pujya Gurudev Bhagwat Pujyapada Pratah Smaraneya Gurudev Swami Nikhileshwaranand ji; Dr. Narayan Dutt Shirimali ji! Wishing you all success. rgnikhil , kanu priya <kanupriya003> wrote: > Om Gurave Namah > Dear Gurus, > Can someone please tell me more about the Chandra ayan vrat? When is it observed? Guest guest
|| Jai Sadguru Dutta || "chAndhrAyaN vrath" is prescribed to get rid of the sins committed knowingly or unknowingly, in the present or past lives. It is chiefly advocated as a "prAyaschitth" for the sin/attrocity committed against any Brahmin like killing a grihastha Brahmin, snatching away the source of livelyhood of a poor Brahmin, insulting a Brahmin who is learned in the Vedas or destroying the family of a Brahmin householder. The same vrath is prescribed for a Brahmin also who has indulged himself in any unethical act like sexual intercourse with a woman of other castes, drinking alcohol etc. It is said that this vrath is capable of destroying the malefic effects of the sins committed by one's parents also. The duration of the vrath is 30 days: 15 days each of the 2 lunar phases. The "vrathi" - the one who has undertaken the vrath decreases the amount of intake of food each consecutive day, each day lesser than the previous day. This corresponds to the "kShaya" - waning moon of the "kRShNa pakSha". Ofcourse, he has to take food only once (during day time only), that too only as much as his right palm can hold. This amount decreases by each passing day. On the New Moon day, he should fully starve. Again from the first day (praThami) of the "shukla pakSha", the amount of food starts increasing, corresponding to the waxing moon. On the last day of the vrath (poornimA - Full Moon) the following havans should be conducted on the bank of a holy river: 1. chAndrAyaNa homa with the Rgveda mantras like "navO navO Bhavathi.. ", "ApyAyaswasamEthuthE...", etc 2. Purusha sooktha homam 3. KooshmAnda homam This is followed by "kSheera arGhya" - milk oblations with the same mantras to Lord Moon and sufficient dhakshinas to Brahmins. All through the vrath, the vrathi has to live in solitude and practice celibecy. Please expect a detailed article on this topic in future. I am highly indebted to you for providing me an opportunity to share whatever little I think "I know". || namah parama RShiBhyO namah parama RShiBhyah || , kanu priya <kanupriya003> wrote: > Om Gurave Namah > Dear Gurus, > Can someone please tell me more about the Chandra ayan vrat?
