Dear members, I have some questions regarding the chandramouleshwara puja performed at Sringeri. 1) In the chandramouleshwara-puja as performed daily by H.H. Jagadguru, there are only one (black) salagrama stone representing Vishnu and one (red) shonabadra stone representing Ganesha. But what about the stones for Shakti and Surya? Of course, the chandramouleshwara lingam also has a yoni (shakti) part, so maybe that explains the absence of a separate Shakti-stone. But then what about the Surya-stone? 2) As far as I know, Sringeri is following the panchayatana-puja tradition. Or is it the shanmatha-puja tradition? If so, then what about the absence or the brass-spear generally representing Subramania (Muruga)? To my limited knowledge, the shanmatha-system is more of a specific Tamil tradition, and the shanmatha puja is common mainly among the Tamil Iyers (smarthas). Moreover, isn´t the worship of lord Subramania more common in Tamil Nadu than in Karnataka, where Sringeri Peetham is located? 3) Do the absence of a specific stone representing Shakti (in the chandramouleshwara puja) has something to do with the fact that puja to godess Sharada is performed daily at Sringeri Peetham? However, this still don´t explain the absence of a Surya-stone. I would be grateful for any help. Sri Bharathi Teertha Swamigal worships a narasimha saligrama, chandramoulishwara and shonabhadra ganapathi. If you have observed he commences pooja by worshipping Ratnagarbha ganapathi and concludes by Srichakra Pooja everyday. Therefore of the panchayatana, except surya everyone else is worshipped. Panchayatana pooja is done by the priest of the mutt, while swamigal sticks to just the above mentioned deities. This is as per parampara being followed there. As far as worship of Subramanya is concerned as you rightly pointed out it is more popular in Tamilnadu than Karnataka, although Karnataka has quite a few temples dedicated to Lord Subramanya. Any pooja is done for chitta shuddhi, Panchayatana pooja is one amongst them prescribed by Sri Adi Shankara which is suggestive of the five elements. This does not preclude other forms of worship or necessiate that only panchayatana pooja is meritorious. My two cents..
