Chinmasta, Hey:

I don't know the Kriya Yoga, except for a very brief introductory

initiation by one of Swami Hariharanada's teachers. Still, I

believe that Kriya Yoga is primarily a group of meditations. It's

mostly for people who can already sit in meditation for long

periods. I think that Agni yoga is probably part of Hatha Yoga;

that prepares a person to be able to sit for long periods by getting

rid of mental, emotional and physical barriers that might prevent

that...

Still, Kriya Yoga may indeed be part of Hatha Yoga; but an advanced

part.

Some Kriya Yogis say that MahaAvatar Babaji was the developer of the

Hatha Yoga. That would be prior to Patanjali.

I beg to differ, and I strongly object to the claim of Haidakhan Baba being

Mahavatar Babaji. The Holy of Holies Babaji will never stoop down to this level

whatsoever. The young boy, who called himself Babaji, was actually an

illegitimate son of a retired British civil service guy called Mr.Wilson and

his Sikh maid. Some people even used to call him "Wilson Baba". He was

associated with a notorious Tantrik named Nainital Baba, who taught him many

techniques, such as appearing before people in their dreams. People who were

too gullible got caught in this hype. He attracted many followers and some of

his American followers pressed him to admit that he must be Babaji, so he

finally decided to "admit" it. It was all a joke, and he died in 1983 of food

poisoning. All these techniques have nothing to do with the Kriya Yoga

taught by Mahavatar Babaji. For authentic information on Kriya Yoga, there is

plenty of literature (written by highly advanced Kriya Yoga masters) available

at an online library http://www.yoganiketan.net, or one may check with

Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsang Society founded by Paramahansa

Yogananda for such information.I hope this clarifies some people's doubts or

questions.Good luck!, chinmasta
