Dear spiritual brothers and sisters,

Aghor is one of the main Indian traditions,

which is considered to have been started by Lord Dattatreya. The

word Aghor is a combination of two words 'a' and 'ghor' where 'a'

means not and 'ghor' means intense or deep. The word symbolises a

lifestyle where a person of the Aghor tradition does not have any

intense feelings of affection, hatred, love, jealousy, greed and

other worldly feelings .He is indifferent to all these feelings. He

does not differentiate and discriminate between any of these

feelings .A person who follows this path is called an Aghori.

Aghoris seem to follow a path, which is strikingly opposite to that

of ideal Hinduism. They take liquor, eat flesh and utter

obscenities, meditate at night and have uninhibited sex. All this

makes one believe that they are uncultured Hindus but that is

incorrect. Aghoris also believe in Hinduism's fundamental reality of

Moksha i.e. salvation .For them it is the unification of the self

with the supreme consciousness.Aghoris are one of the most

controversial of Hindu holy men .They are known to possess magical

powers. Stories of Aghoris curing people suffering from serious

diseases are common in the Indian villages. Their powers at

awakening the dead are also talked about by people. Even in India

the word 'Aghori' cannot be used freely without drawing suspicion on

peoples faces. This is really sad because actually they are gentle

people. Infact my birth was due to an aghori and also my

spirituality and visions are because of his and another aghori's

grace.

Sad to note that people in india are losing faith in the

aghora system and consider it as evil. everyhing in this world

is ''unhorrible''...the aghora...because the physical reality is an

illusion.

urs yogically,

dattu

Hi Dattu ji,

Nice to see an email from you again...

Okay about this aghori thing... to be honesh I have never heard any good

story about a aghori. Most of them are all horror once. I dont know who

is to be blamed, Me who is listening, People who are telling, Or

Aghori's who have done bad stuff...

Or May be they are just stories...

But seriously I am still waiting to hear good things about them...

Thanks

Dp

Hi!

The attitude of indifference is actually supposed to be a yogic

quality when one has controlled the senses and it doesnt matter if its

cold or warm, if one eats meat or vegetables. One is above the pairs

of opposites and the 3 gunas, even above good and evil.

I personally admire aghoris who can do all these "forbidden" things

under the condition that they are really done in a detached attitude.

Swami Satyananda said once: if you bring me a cigarette right now I

can smoke it on the spot. But of course Swami Satyananda is a great

yogi who doesnt smoke or drink or eat meat. He said that only to show

that he has the neccessary detachment to do any forbiden thing, he

just doesnt do it because he uses other methods.

So, on terms of detachment, I admire the aghoris. Actually the 3 books

of Aghora by R E Svoboda, have had a deep impact on my spiritual

worldview and changed my life. I believe getting to know what Aghora

is about is a very precious and rewarding experience. However, I would

never try to practice it. Because I am aware of my limitations and to

be a true aghori one should be an absolutely perfect yogi, that has

perfected the right hand path of yoga to continue to the extreme left

hand path of aghora.

regards
