Guest guest
Hi All, Okay now since child hood I have know, (was told, lisetened or what ever way) that women should not do any sadhanas/pooja during their periods. I ran into this discussion today with someone and the person challanged it... I mean asked why? Now I have no info / knowledge on that as being a guy, I never ran into this problem, hence never thought about it. What are your (all the other devotees in this group) opinion? And if you can also give some reason on it, that would be really good. Thanks a lot in advance. Dp PS: I hope I am not asking a stupid question. Guest guest
Jaya Gurudev Dear Gurubhai, What I know is during the period time, some sort of negative energy rises in the woman which cuts off all the positive one within herself. This energy is so strong it is said that if she gonna touch some sick people, he/she will definately die within some time. And if one doing sadhana touches her, then our positive energy will be discharged by her -ve one. So, if she is going to do sadhana during the period she will discharge all the rays and energy in the sadhana sthall(place). So, our society has kept them separately during the period. Also, you can see in our society WOMEN are the one who does more work. What men does ? They only work to get salary. Most of the household work from cooking to childcare is mostly done by woman. So, it is the nature that gave them rest for 4/6 days in a month. And our society accepted it. Pratap Thapa n Prakash Shrestha
Guest guest
According to medical terms there is mood swing during the menstruational cycle. There are hormonal changes in the body which obviously afects the mind. Sadhana has a lot to do with the mind. So in order to avoid the clash women are discouraged to perform sadhana during those periods. But I donot think that it is an act of sin if somebody does sadhana/pooja during those period. --- Dhirendra Pal Singh <dp_singh wrote: > > Hi All, > > Okay now since child hood I have know, (was told, > lisetened or what ever > way) that women should not do any sadhanas/pooja > during their periods. > > I ran into this discussion today with someone and > the person challanged > it... Guest guest
Thanks for the input... Now I would really like to know if there is a definitive place (like vedas, purans) where I can find some mention of this. That way I will be 100% sure that this is the reason. Thanks a lot again Dp pradeesh raj wrote: > OF the three gunas, sattva, raja & tama, during the period, raja and > tama guna becomes more active in a women. Guest guest
It should be noted that in Sabarimala, ladies during the menstruating age should not go to the the temple because it is feared that they will lose their life if they do so and if menstruation happens at the sannidhanam(sanctum sanitorium). Also we find in all temples in India, that people do not visit temples during the time of menses. Even during religious functions also people having menses are not attending function/not allowed to. They are treated as Ashuddha during that period of bleeding. Even after delivery also a lady is not supposed to go to temple for some days. These rules and instances make me feel that the energy levels may not go well with sadhana if done during this period. Also I have heard people say that the sexual feeling is on the rise during the menses period and the temperature of the body is very hot. Hence mayb it may also be a reason. Even it is to be noted that if the blooded sanitary napkins which are used during menses are smelt by any naga, then the particular lady will have skin problems and will die soon. Hence olden people burn the cloth used during menses. Even it is also advised not to do some devi sadhanas when ladies are under menses in the house. Devis, like Kali, like menstruating blood. Anyway it is best to take advise of some Brahmin Shastri, they will know best why ladies are avoided during this period.
