Often Bhagavan Ramana commented that the world is unreal. I often find it very tough to perceive this . How real the world looks even though it is unreal !. The diff objects in the world make it more realistic even though they are temporary things . -------------------- With regards Sunil Shankar
Guest guest
Dear Sunil Shankar, This is often a point of contention and/or confusion. ************************* Talk 516: A question arose if the world is real or unreal, since it is claimed to be both by the advaitins themselves. Sri Bhagavan said that it is unreal if viewed as apart from the Self and real if viewed as the Self. ************************* "The ajnani takes the world to be real; whereas the jnani sees it only as a manifestation of the Self. It is immaterial if the Self manifests itself or ceases to do so." (Talk; 65) ************************* The point we can take here is that it is the seer who establishes the reality or unreality of the world. Find the seer. The Self is eternally aware. Sometimes it identifies as the seer, and objects appear. This is the creation of the world as a 'separate' entity. Ever Yours in Sri Bhagavan, Miles -----------
Guest guest
Hello, > Often Bhagavan Ramana commented that the > world is unreal. I often find it very tough > to perceive this . How real the world looks > even though it is unreal !. > The diff objects in the world make it more realistic > even though they are temporary things . Everything seen, dreamed and imagined have the same amount of reality. In dreams we see trees, buildings and people. What are they made of? Are dream trees made of wood? The whole dream world is made of mind only. Similarly, even the world seen during waking is made of mind only and nothing else. So there are only two things. If you are considering from the microcosmic level (when you look inwards), these are the Self and the mind. If you are considering from the macrocosmic level (when you look outwards), these are Brahman and Mahamaya. In the next step of analysis, all these four will turn out to the One, which is indescribable.
