Guest guest
Hello, > to add something - > Hebrew behaves like Tamil - no present tense for to be, > so the 'I am I' would be 'ani ani'. > but it has the 'to be' in : infinitive , > and past and future tenses. > > does Tamil use the 'to be' with past & future tenses ? Yes. The infinitive does not need any frills. But if you want to specify the tense, then you need to add more words. nAn nAn = I am I (or more precisely, I am me.) nAn nAnAha irukkirEn = I am as me. nAn nAnAha irundhEn = I was as me. nAn nAnAha iruppEn = I will be as me. similarly with other tenses. But, I feel though grammatically incorrect, the translation of "nAn nAn" should be "I-I" only because 1. If it is "am" is used, then a sense of time comes into picture and eternity is gone. 2. If "me" or "myself" is used instead of the second "I", as it should be to be grammatically correct, then the second "I" becomes an object. But we want both to be the subject. The moment you equate "I" with an object, the spirit of the expression "nAn nAn" is gone. The very process of self enquiry is to hold on to the Subject and discard all objects. I am laughing at myself at these hair-splitting arguments. Simply believe "I I" and what more is needed says Ramana from Within :-) With regards, Gomu. -- ----------------------------- Email: gomu Phone(Off): +91 44 4466448, 4466449 Phone(Res): +91 44 8140104 Webpage: http://www.geocities.com/gokulmuthu/ ----------------------------- It is better to wear out than to rust out. - Swami Vivekananda -----------------------------
