The following message was written by a twelve-year-old boy who asked

me for some advice about self-inquiry.

[meditate-your-way-to-enlightenment] meditation for self-inquiry

Hi!!!,

Well, I have just done the best meditation I have ever done before!!!! It is

a meditation from the religion from hinduism, but does that matter? I do it

anyway. Here it is.

You think about the me, the I, the self, and you look at that thought, and

see where it forms, and develops. Then, you put your attention on that spot

in your mind. Then, your mind goes blank!!! And, wel, it feels as though

you are watching the mind!!! And, you see, well, who is watching this mind?

ME!!!!! But then, what about the mind, I am not in the mind? No, I'm not!!!

The, who am I?!!! And, you look to see who you are!!! And you look and

look and look and look, sorry for the wording I am so happy!!!, and

eventually, not in one day though, after a long time, you find me!!!! And

you chase me into the heart!!! And put your attention on it until me

desolves and your ego goes with it!!! And, you are enlightened!!! TRY IT

PLEASE!!!! It works!!!!

Blessed be

Leaf

What a wonderful description of self-inquiry practice! Thank you so much for

sharing it. I think this would be great for your site. I am sorry that I

can't write with the clarity or enthusiasm shown in this letter.

Hi Richard,

This kid and I have been corresponding for about

six weeks now. It has been one of the most astonishing

experiences of my life.

When I first heard from him he was asking questions like,

"What is meditation?" A couple of weeks later, he

announced to me that "God isn't a person, God is everything."

It turned out that this announcement was based on

experiences he had begun to have -- he was in a

bliss/nonduality state for several days.

A few days ago he independently rediscovered that

Atman is Brahman. Here's how he described it to me:

"I had a weird thought today. Let's see, how to say it, how to explain it.

I had the thought that all is mind, that all is thought. This sounds weird.

But, well, not mind, more than consciousness, ,yes, consciousness, that is

the right word. Mind isn't the same. But, all is consciousness, and some of

the consciousness is inside humans, but most of it is air, and other objects.

God is consciousness, so, god is what we are made of, as well as in side of

us, as well as around us, we are always in contact with God. But, through

consciousness flows thought. Some thought flows through the consciousness in

humans, but most flows through the open consciousness, or in objects. So,

can't air think?, hehe, that is a funny THOUGHT!!!!!, hehe. No seriously,

i'm not sure of my idea of this, oh, yes, out consciousness, in our heads, it

has attention, so it focuses the thoughts so that we notice the thoughts, but

normal consciousness without attention does not notice thought. "

> I think this would be great for your site.

Yeah, thanks, I'll publish that letter somewhere on the site.

I'd also like eventually to publish all his emails (he has

sent me hundreds) as a record of a child's waking-up

experiences.

Regards,

Rob

Hi Vicki,

You don't need to worry! I asked his permission

about everything. He likes me to reprint his

messages. Both the messages I quoted here were

from public groups.

He and I have become friends and I would

never do anything to make him unhappy.

I have great respect for him. You know the tradition

that a person's guru shows up when the time is right?

I think maybe he is my guru.

Hi Vicki,

I don't know if his mother knows. I'll ask him.

Don't apologize for raising these questions. If

this could hurt him, I want to know.

What harm to you see from this?

He is very active on the Internet. He moderates

several mail groups and posts in many mail

groups. So far, I haven't added much to his

publicity.

Your concerns are justified Vicki, especially in the Internet age. Often

parents do not have time to oversee the Internet activities of their

children, sometimes to the detriment of the child who does not know any

better.

hi Rob ,

I am so worried for the child that I can't write to you

any more for the moment.

Anyway I think his parents should know about this ;

and I think the child should be protected and not exposed publicly

to feed people's curiosity; publicity feeds people's greed in

search of unusual events and could harm the child ,

he needs special attention and care, understanding ,protection,

not being exposed to the wolves.

Handle with great care ,Rob !

I know I've been over reacting , I am sorry ,

vicki.

Hi Vicky,

Oh, I see. I've been worried about you, actually.

Every time I read the newspaper I wonder if you're

okay. I hope you and your family are okay.

This little boy is safe. I'm sure of it. I've gotten to

know him over the last six weeks. The

message I quoted sounded childish because he was

excited but actually he is a mature, sensible kid.

He doesn't tell anybody his real name or address,

and he only began to confide in me after he had

received many messages from me over the course

of a month and he had become convinced that I

could be trusted.

I'm not going to say anything about his personal life

because that would be betraying confidences

but he's told me about his family and friends and I'm

convinced that he is a sane, practical, sensible, loving

boy with a happy home life. There are a lot of

troubled people inhabiting the Internet but he isn't

one of them.

Hi Rob,

You are being very modest. It was your patient answers that helped bring

about the transformation.

I, for one, wasn't sure if the kid was genuine or someone pulling our legs.

You are the kids guru not the other way round!

I think you forgot to mention that he is also blind. I wish there was a way

to teach all blind people such spirituality. Wouldn't such awakening make

their lives much easier to live?
