kAyavAnmanah kAryamuttamam /

pUjanaMjapaScintanaM kramAt //

 

'In the matter of worship, japa, and meditation,

which are performed by body, speech, and mind,

respectively, each is better than the one before.'

 

4b)

 

diDamidu pUjai jepamun* diyAna

muDalVAk kuLattozhi lun*dIpar^a

vuyarvAgu monr^ilon r^undIpar^a

 

'This is certain (firm). Worship, japa and meditation

the work of body, speech and mind, in that order,

each is better than the one before.'

jagatISadhIyuktasevanam /

ashTamUrtibhrddevapUjanaM //

 

'Serving the world with intent on the Lord, is the

worship of the divine bearing the eight forms (earth,

water, fire, air, space, sun, moon, jiva).'

 

5b)

 

eNNuru yAvu mir^aiyuru vAmena

veNNi vazhipaDa lun*dIpar^a

vISanar^ pUSanai yun*dIpar^a.

 

'Considering the world as the the eight fold

manifestation of the Lord and worshipping Him is

(true)worship.'

 

(the tamil word eNNuru permits another meaning. -

'Considering all forms conceived by the mind as

manifestation of the Lord and worshipping Him is true

worship.')

uttamastavAduccamandatah /

cittajaMjapadhyAnamuttamam //

 

'Meditation on japa born of mind is better than the

best hymns of praise whether chanted loudly or

softly.'

 

6b)

 

vazhuttalil vAkkucca vAykkuT jebattil

vizhuppamA mAnada mun*dIpar^a

viLambun* diyAnami dun*dIpar^a

 

'Chanting the name (Japa) of the Lord is better than

singing His praise. Chanting softly is better than

(chanting)loudly. Mental japa, also called meditation

(dhyanam) is still better.'
